Hi, I notice that most of the pics I see on this site of engines with headers have no heat shield. Are the studs not long enough? My project car has no shield either, and I was planning on using the 318i gasket/shield, but I wonder if I need longer studs?

The studs are long enough no matter what head you have. The heat shields usualy loose the shield over time due to failure at the bend. I run one on mine, plus they are only $12 for a new one.

I don't think you would be able to fit an M42 head gasket on an M10 block. I could be wrong. I haven't too much studying up on head gaskets for the 320i's. But I am almost absolutely sure that you don't need different studs. Again, I could be wrong. I'm about 89% sure though.

On occasion. Case by Case basis. Sounds like a nice idea right now. I guess I'll return in a little bit.:smoke3 :smoke3 :smoke3

Dooood:lol I was talking about the M10 powered 318i...better gasket than the individual ones that came on the E21's and has a heat shield on them. One piece. Headers generate a lot of heat, and I sort of feel I need one.

'on my 2.8l STROKER I am going to install into my ASCOTGRAU 323i I am going to get rid of the ANSA headers it has now and install a set of ALPINA ones I have bought from BUCHLOE in Germany'.

I am going to machine a pair of bungs to weld to the headers that will take a 10 or 13 mm bolt. This will allow me to fabricate a stainless heat shield that will deflect most of the heat from the upper engine compartment. Some of the e30 guys have done the same with the RD Headers. A little more coverage than the stock manifold gaskets that only protect the distributor to plug wiring

Once I 'send them out to get JETT HOTT coated with CERAMIC coating they will be cooler when the STROKER is running and making POWER.'

^^^Is tyler's old car, with the heat sheilds and ANSA headers

Interesting.
I got rid of the heat sheilds when I put on the ansa cermiac coated jet hot coated headers. This was a while ago, and you all know I have not even started my car in forever, so I completely forgot about them.

Aparrently you need them, so I will have to do something there, this spring when I put my new motor in.

Ray, Any pictures of heat shields the e30 guys use with the Racing Dynamic headers?

thanks
J
