Well my 320i decided to blow it's pinion seal and let the differential run out of oil. That badass rearend drove a good 40 miles without any oil. Knowing the rearend may be toast, I decided to further purge the inventory of the 320i Special Edition in the local yard. It's the weirdest car, it has rear sway bar with urethane bushings, sport steering wheel, bilstein shocks and an LSD, but it's only a four speed. Anyway, I didn't even know if the rear end was any good till I took it out and it turned smooth so I took it. Put the thing in my car and bam, 2 wheel burnout! Man, that rearend makes a huge difference in traction. My car accelerates better and corners way better now. I'd imagine the gear ratio is a bit better than what I had. Anyway, a sad event to have a diffy blow, but a great results in a faster car and new Koni shocks in the back to hook up the traction.

Btw, it's a helluva lot easier to take a rear subframe out of this car than it is to take just the differential out. I mean, there's more work involved to remove the subframe, but it's easier work than the differential in place. Damn driveshaft bolt access hole. I gotta wonder what they were thinking on that one....

If its LSD most likely its a 3.91:1. They did build 3.64:1 LSD's but are not so easy to find. There should be a stamp when you look at the diff from the rear that will indicate what ratio it is, it will also have an S on the stamp.

It is truely amazing the difference in handling between a LSD car and an open diff car... I have one of each and it's VERY apparent the LSD is much better on dry roads as well as wet...

The differential has alot of rust on it so I can't see the "S" stamp, but I know it's LSD cuz when I would spin around corners with one wheel, now I don't. I know it's the same ratio cuz the rpm and speeds still match. I really like the extra grip around corners. I never knew the difference, now I do. I can't get my wheels to spin with any sane amount of rpm in first.

we had cars down here which were 320i sports. Came with all that plus recaro interiors.

I have a 3.64 LSD :D I reccomend you do an oil change on yours right away.

Oil already changed on it. We just got snow here and the car is completely different to drive.
