Hello all.
I'm new to this forum; considering a 2001+ M coupe as my next car. I have a few questions...

- Since the M coupe has vitually the same engine as the E46 M3, have there been any reports of engine failures on M coupes also?
- Any major differences between the 01 and 02 M coupes, especially in the reliability department?
- Why isn't there an M coupe forum?

Thanks..

1. I don't know of any Coupe failures. I think the Coupe engine has a slightly lower redline.

2. I don't know of any major differences between 01 and 02 models. Maybe color choices or something.

3. The Coupe is a bastard car. There is a Coupe board at roadfly.com, otherwise we get lumped with the Z cars. Goto the Z3 forum here!

There's only about 2600 Coupes total. The traffic is slow in this board in the Z3 section, so a Coupe only board woulf be like, 8 people talking amongst themselves.

No real need to consider a Coupe. The car kicks total ass. I just did GA180 and GA60 last weekend. Unbelievable.

I have the 240hp version and it's very fast.

Thanks for the response. I know they added tire pressure monitors for 2001. I was just thinking along the lines of the 01 engin failures on the E46M3's; mabe the 02 M Coupes got a similar "fix" if that actually exists.
Only 2600 were made? Is that number for 99 thru 02 for the US market? Wow!!

The 'fix' so far has been heavier oil... The Roadster/Coupe S54's are slightly detuned with:
lower redline, less agressive vanos and a supposedly more restrictive exhaust. I believe JimC's chip brings the performance back to M3 standards...
I haven't heard of any Coupe/Roadster failures which is leading many people to believe it's the xtra (500 i think) RPM's that are killing them...
The euro S54's have cats further back due to slacker emissions nazis this combined with a differnt measuring standard equal the xrta ?15? Hp.

If you think you MAY EVEN SLIGHTLY want an M3 don't test drive a coupe...

Uuuummm... that should be all newbie Q's i can think of right now.

Welcome to Bimmerforums!

the 4th quarter '01 M3 had the problems to my knowledge and they haven't happened since.

There was a concentrated cluster around november, yes. But not exclusively so... unfortunately.:(
