I just decided to try Royal Purple in my car for the first time. I missed out on the fantastic M1 deal so I thought I would try something new. I went with Racing 41 which wasn't cheap but it is formulated for forced induction racing applications. Just curious what others results have been with Royal Purple it is rated at a 15w40 multi viscosity weight. They say the number one thing people say when they switch to it is you can feel the difference. I really don't believe that but I have certainly heard several people say it about Royal Purple.

I use the Royal Purple Fricition Modified stuff in my LSD. I use Royal Purple in my tranny as well. As for motor oil, been a fan of the M1 0-40, but have a case of Amsoil 5-40 that I will be using from now on...
I also use Amsoil 10-30 in the NSX, and Royal Purple fricition modified stuff in the transaxle... stuff is great!

I doubt you'll feel the difference from the oil you add. Just make sure it has all the proper ratings/certifications. As far as I'm concerned, my Mobil1 15w50 has been doing a great job from my stock 325is (ran as good as new @ 145k miles), to stock M3 to now turbo'd M3. I also have no problems in the winters with it.
I'm sure if you switch you'll notice no difference--this kind of stuff is usually in people's heads. I'm also sure Bob M3 might disagree with me :shifty

Feel the Difference
The most frequent comment from customers is how they can feel the difference in their vehicles after switching to Royal Purple. For instance, Royal PurpleŽ Motor Oil typically improves horsepower and torque up to 3%. It also reduces fuel consumption by as much as 5% and typically reduces emissions 20% or more
3% would be 12hp I don't believe it but I have never read of any other oil that people put in their car that they rave about so much. I have always used Mobil 1 15w50 in my car as well but I was looking for a racing rated oil for even more protection.

I gained a few points of compression and the car felt a tad bit more responsive, also resulting in 2 MPG more after switching from Mobil1 20W-50 (the older red top) to Royal Purple Racing 51
isn't a 15-50w a little too heavy? Im running 10-30w in my 325i in a 30F-100F climate..

Royal purple in my trannies was a night and day difference. In the motor oil, only thing I noticed is my car is very easy to drive when its cold and just started, even in sub freezing temps with the M1 0w-40, and I'm going to use amsoil 5w-40 and hopefully have the same affects.

royal purple in my gearbox only. had royal purple in the diff as well but swapped over to M1 when I couldn't find more royal puruple. I was running m1 in the diff when it popped. I doubt that led to it's failure though.

I have the Royal Purple for about 1k miles. Can't really say I notice a difference. Can't hurt and I don't think I have lost any performance also.
One thing that worries me is that they say it is good for 12,500 miles. Anyone push that envelope yet?

I have seen a test with dyno graphs where they replaced all the fluids in an
e36 m3 with some high quality stuff(can't remember if it was royal purple, but it may have been)redline maybe but this was in euro tuner or something so maybe they just pointed fans at the intake or whatever but the car gained like 3whp, which sounds possible I guess. I will try to find the link.
