View Full Version : I saw the 1990 "Bubble M3" Today!!!
Tickets 11-10-2005, 05:01 PM So I drop off my E36 for some work and I see a perfect E30 M3 parked. Damn that looks nice, must of just got back from the paint shop or something. I then get closer and see the airbag steering wheel, I start to get hard, then I see the odometer with 14,000 miles and instantly I'm at full mast! The car was UNREAL! Totally brand new! The car was not only PERFECT in every shape and form, but it had many tastful upgrades including Recaro seats, fully build motor, you name it. Now before everybody gets pissed....I Know pictures. So I'll have to take some when I return, this time prepared.
cgregory 11-10-2005, 07:44 PM I thought the bubble car got turned into a track whore by the guy who bought it:dunno
Sounds sweet nonetheless.
325Projectz 11-10-2005, 08:16 PM Where in AZ is this car?
Tickets 11-10-2005, 09:48 PM It's actually in Woodland Hills, CA (I need to change my info). The car is set up for track use, minus the cage and it still has A/C: it has fully built motor, different gearing, diff, short shift, and soon to be new rims. It is fully ready for the track, but my mechanic claims that it is going to be a weekend driver and definitely not a track car.
cgregory 11-10-2005, 10:16 PM ah...when you said it had the airbag wheel I didn't get the impression that it was track prepped

MPowerM3 11-11-2005, 03:20 PM Search s14.net using keywords bubble car and you'll find about 15000 pages of info on that car. It was for sale last I heard of it for 40k dollars. That "built" motor is also not the original 14k mile motor but the Turner built 2.5 motor that was for sale for 5 years on there website.
aeryk7 11-12-2005, 06:22 PM Why is this car called the bubble m3 is it maybe that it was a garage queen most of it's life. If not why?
daveisconfused 11-12-2005, 06:48 PM wasnt it like... actually kept in a bubble?
JeffNJM3 11-12-2005, 08:27 PM The car known as the cleanest original e30 m3 in the USA. Every inch of the car was cleaned, i mean they partially dissasembled to car to clean places like behind the bumper and every crack and crevice. The was then sold to some rich dude who was looking for a track car and only wanted the best. So he pulled the motor and bought a beautiful looking big $$ motor from Turner. BTW, they couldn't get the motor to run, seems whoever built the super-expensive motor at Turner forgot to install the rings on the pistons, therefore no compression = no run. Whoops. So they get it all running, supposedly he never got the car on the track, and after ruining a legend of an M3, a car that belongs in a museum, he decides to sell it. What a shame. Oh, yeah and to answer your question, when it was owned by the guy who cleaned it better than new, it was kept in a bubble, many people, espicially in the classic car scene, use these bubbles to keep their cars in thier garages.
banndit 11-12-2005, 09:16 PM didn't that car come from NC?
daveisconfused 11-13-2005, 02:53 AM i currently own the bubble car.

Sorry, this is not accurate info. The cams just needed a slight adjustment. We had the car running in less than an hour.

bokes 11-13-2005, 11:21 PM No, either NY or NY, can't remember. Former BMW CCA Club racer who owns/owned a LOT of E30 M3s.
wtf? Motorsport Connections in NC installed the 2.5. the owner that had the motor put in has owned a carrera GT, and many many many other very rare cars. when he bought the bubble car, he wasnt impressed with the cars power, so he decided to buy the 2.5L from turner. one of the cylinders was WAY low on compression. turner did everything they could to get the motor running correctly, as well as Motorsport Connections.
some pics of the bubble car. http://www.bimmers.com/gallery/bubble-car
mscott 11-13-2005, 11:32 PM I saw the car listed on Roadfly about a month ago. It was for sale in Greensboro NC.
newbimmerguy 11-14-2005, 06:17 PM Any chance you would sell that car? Please let me know.
thanks,
Jason
cgregory 11-14-2005, 06:32 PM Are you serious about buying it? I'm pretty sure the current owner is trying to get rid of it...he posted something on S14.net a while back, and I doubt it's been sold.
dhabes 11-14-2005, 08:10 PM wtf? Motorsport Connections in NC installed the 2.5. http://www.bimmers.com/gallery/bubble-car
He is talking about Gary Bossert who owned the car before the dude in NC did.
autox320 11-15-2005, 04:56 AM It was an NC car after the bubble. I checked it out in the parking lot of an autox event. It didn't run the event, but was being driven by dudes daughter. It was her car actually. Turner motor was just being broke in before AlphaN conv. Sweet car, but like the story was told on S14.net, the car wasn't always perfect. The bubble and the internet gave the car hype. Then again I guess not all are lucky to find a rare unmolested E30M3, so they forget how sexy a clean one looks. Didn't know the car was for sale AGAIN. Doubt the owner cares if he gets the 60+K that was spent on it.
dhabes 11-15-2005, 08:40 AM Sweet car, but like the story was told on S14.net, the car wasn't always perfect.
This is what I dont get. The guy who owns it's son in law was the one posting and he said this too. So then please explain why he paid nearly double what you will pay for most other E30 M3s.
This isnt against you but, as the pictures show, the car is damn near what it looked like as it rolled off the line so I have yet to understand how the car could be more perfect.
