View Full Version : New motorsports complex planned for Jacksonville, FL
JBgotM 11-08-2005, 01:40 PM I heard about this as a concept 2 years ago, and they just released a visual to the public. Its set to open in late '07. It accomidates drag, oval, and road course.
Thought you guys might like to see what should be coming.

krisko 11-08-2005, 04:17 PM Bring it on, another track for us SE guys.
B.Watts 11-08-2005, 04:40 PM Sweet. Jacksonville is "relatively" close for Florida and easy to get to thanks to 95. I could probably get there in 6-7 hours.

They haven't announced the location, but rumor is that its a 170 acre plot of land that was just sold south of the FL/GA border.

I would love to meet you guys sometime at ones of the tracks. Unfortunately, I have only done a couple and can't afford to do them often, but I like to try and get one or 2 in a year.
B.Watts 11-08-2005, 04:52 PM I'd only be down there if BMW CCA or SCCA picked up the track as a race venue (it would make sense for SCCA since it's nice an accessible from almost anywhere in the SE region).
banndit 11-08-2005, 06:33 PM I'm from Jax originally, so it would be a good excuse (as if I needed one) to see my folks more often.

Steve J. 11-08-2005, 06:48 PM Hopefully lovely Souther NJ will be the location of this bueaty...breaking ground first or second quarter of 06, to be ready for use for 07 (karting tracks even earlier).

I don't see bmwcca going there unless Tar Heel does it...wouldn't be that much of a stretch for them. I'd expect PBOC, SCCA, and NASA to race there.
mcclaskz 11-08-2005, 07:58 PM How long is it? Some of those turns look pretty tight? I wonder if this other track in NC (HighRockLake) will ever get off the ground as well. The southeast is looking good.
Specter325 11-09-2005, 02:39 PM Hey the First Coast chapter is right there and would be all over that place. They run a few schools a year at Roebling and Sebring. I too also hope the Highrock Lake project takes off. It would be really nice to have that in my neighborhood.
JBgotM 06-29-2006, 06:49 PM I found this, but they released this in April.
5 mile road course and its only about 20 minutes from my house :buttrock
Today we have officially released our 660-acre site plan for public viewing. This is similar to the smaller plan we had released a few months ago, but that plan was targeting about 470 acres of the same piece of land. After making a more detailed investigation of the property, we concluded we'd like to acquire this additional acreage, so we developed an alternate site plan to take advantage of the additional space.
This plan features a 1/4 mile concrete drag strip which is more than 4500 feet long, with a 200 foot gravel trap beyond the shutdown area, a road course which is 5 miles in overall length (measured on the track centerline), which would make it the longest road course in North America, and a 1/2 mile paved, banked oval speedway, with a 3/8 mile flat figure-8 inner oval.
Like all of our publicly released site plans, this is merely a study and may not reflect the final facility. In particular, some features have been exaggerated for visibility reasons due to the scale of the image shown here, and some things like turn radiuses, runoff areas, or detention pond areas are likely to change. However, this will give interested parties a good idea about the direction we're taking. This is definitely a realistic plan that represents a great deal of research, planning, and effort.
The specific location under consideration (not yet purchased) is at the intersection of Interstate 10 and US 301, and can be seen at Google Maps by clicking here.
Enjoy!

Jmabarone 06-29-2006, 07:17 PM man, those courses look nice. I'd love to get some track-time on those with my kart...

gobuffs 06-29-2006, 08:02 PM I see one huge problem with the layout of the track (in post 12)....there is NO provision to be able to run 2 separate events on each half of the track. (There is no left half and right half). Most tracks have that designed in and this one does not.

I noticed that. Thier earlier layout had the provision, but this one does not.

On the other hand, that is a really nice parking lot! :D

tynashracing 06-29-2006, 11:20 PM There's been chatter and a press release for the same type complex (drag, oval and road coarse) here in Sevierville, TN (Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg). We're only 90 miles from Asheville, NC, and about 3 1/2 hours from Atlanta. We'll see what develops. Evidently, these type things are very fragile. But, it would be awesome if it did happen as we need more tracks for the south east.

Steve J. 06-30-2006, 12:15 AM unfortunately most of these things don't go through.
There's been about 4-5 of them oin the NY/PA/NJ/CT area in the last 10 years and nothing has really been developed.
This seems to be one of the best to date, and actually looks like it'll go through, not on time i am sure, but it'll go through from what has been done so far, very cool!
Also, the new enterntainment complex Zanadu (meadowlands complex) has recently had rumors of being bankrupt....was/is a proposed 4.8 million sqrft entertainment center.
mcclaskz 06-30-2006, 07:44 AM Here is the update I got yesterday on High Rock International Raceway to be built in Salisbury, NC.
"Rob thank you for your interest. This project like many of its kind has grown into something much more than originally planned. Construction should start in the next two months with completion in time for 2008 season. Once things get underway we will be upgrading the website and will have regular updates to our progress. Thank you"
