View Full Version : Finished first HPDE!
fisherbln 11-07-2005, 09:09 PM Just finished my first drivers school and am amazaed that it was even more fun that I imagined! I learned a lot. I can't believe how little I actually knew about driving my car. It has really made me realize just how much power my car has and that I am nowhere near maxing it out performance wise.
I had an incredible instructor who was an absolutely amazing driver himself. He has a 318ti w/ the downing atlanta supercharger. The car may not have a ton of power (although it's not lacking either), but everytime I watched or joined him, it taught the race prepped cobra a lesson!
As many have said before, I am addicted now! I plan to go to at least 3 events next year and go to watch any others I can.
Jim M3 11-07-2005, 09:29 PM Come on up to Road America next year. We get some guys from the Missouri chapter that come up here. If you want to drive the ultimate track in the US it is right up I-39. There is an event in early April and May. The best thing I can tell you to do is buy some dedicated track pads for your car. This is money well spent you will have much more confidence going into braking zones knowing your car will stop.
M3inNC 11-07-2005, 10:21 PM Now you are officially hooked and there is no turning back. No amount of track time is enough either. Go ahead and plan on spending a significant amount of money on your new addiction.
In addition to track pads I would recommend getting a set of oem blank rotors for $200. If you continue to run your x-drilled rotors you'll ruin them. Ask me how I know.
///Madman 11-07-2005, 11:43 PM How little did I know, back in February 2000, what I was getting into. 94 track days later and a big five figures in mods, repairs, expendables and I realize Crack would have been a cheaper habit (but not nearly as fun).

Welcome to your new support group :)
fisherbln 11-08-2005, 12:19 PM Jim: I'll definately be looking into coming up to road america next year!
I already have been planning to get some track pads as I've already nearly maxed out my stock ones (sure didn't take that long).
Luckily I get the dealer cost +10% deal as my step-father works at the dealer, so I'll order some OEM blank rotors for next season. Think it would be safe to just change the fronts out or should I change rears as well? Previous owner switched them for I'm sure entirely looks.
And Lastly: Hello, my name is Brian, and I am a track addict. :buttrock

Sheridan is a very good instructor and gets a lot out of his car. A lot of guys from the STL and KC chapter will be at MAM (just outside of Omaha) in April. That's Sheridan's home track and a very fun and safe place to further your skills. Then come to the KC BMW Club DE at Heartland Park in Topeka, KS...mid-August. Come back to Topeka in September to watch the Runoffs on the track you just learned.
fisherbln 11-08-2005, 12:35 PM It's terrible that winter is coming and I'm gonna have to wait all these months now :(

No you don't. It's not too late to sign up for the KC BMW Club DE at Hallett this weekend. Hallett is a really fun track...connected turns, lots of elevation, and everyone loves the BITCH (complicated section of turns). Go to kcbmwclub.com for more details.
We're waiving the late fee and $225 will get you a lot of seat time for the weekend.

gottagofast13 11-08-2005, 01:23 PM Did you get my point above? Sorry about that, not sure why it posted 3 times.
fisherbln 11-08-2005, 05:40 PM Haha, got the point. But unforunately I could never get the time off approved in time. Almost tempted to go and then call off work! :devillook
But alas, I am just too darn responsible to do that :(

the first thought in my head after riding with an instructor was "how did i not kill myself diving all these years"
i had no idea how little i knew about driving too.
this season i did 6 or 7 schools with different clubs.
i've been an addict for 4 years.

I thought the same thing. My family really thought my instructor would scare the living crap out of me when he drove, but he really just impressed me.
I wish I could attend 6 schools next year, but I think my budget will keep me closer to 4 or so. We'll see though
