View Full Version : Cage Shops - GA
PrinceE30 11-07-2005, 03:30 PM Does anyone know of a good shop in the North Georgia area to do a quality cage for a 1991 318is. It's going to be a track car at some point so I'd like to start by stiffening it up and making sure I have a safe car from the start.
What sort of money am I looking to spend on something like this?

blue///m3 11-07-2005, 03:32 PM If you don't mind driving, Kirk Racing just north of Birmingham, AL does great work and knows BMWs well.
look them up at kirkracing.com
We could do you a gage, but it wouldn't be for a couple months we have to many other things going on. Price depends on what all you want? $1700-$4000 and up depending on how serious you want to get. We are in the Snellville area.

PrinceE30 11-07-2005, 04:46 PM I've just recently heard a lot of horror stories about cages and people getting injured from poorly fashioned cages. I want something that really can be welded in well and have the proper supports welded in too. I know the e30 is an old car and needs some deffinate added support. Just want to make sure and really have a good cage put in that will add some safety and rigidity in case of a bad crash (its home will be Road Atlanta).

krisko 11-07-2005, 06:00 PM Kirk can do what you want but I'll offer a vote of confidence in the Maxson/Krissel team (rmm3). I've seen their race cars and every part of them is expertly prepared, especially the cages.
Rick, I'd like you guys to look at my cage and work it up a bit. It's a good cage, but it was built to stock class rules (I was unknowledgeable when Kirk made it).
Let me know when you are ready to do something. Do you want to add some stuff to be a full mod cage or are going to be able to run IP next year?

krisko 11-07-2005, 06:48 PM Haha, my IP days are over it in the short term but all I really need to run IP is a stock S50 block. As far as the cage, I need to work on the rear a bit...it doesn't tie into the shock towers and there's no cross brace. Front is squared away, foot protection and everything.
Cool I would keep the cage IP legal in case you get a block. Well unless you have givin up on IP for good. I will keep my eye out for a block. We come across them sometimes.

That's the plan, keep my options open. When will you have the downtime to work on my cage? I have nothing planned at this point except Winterfest and possibly the Roebling race in december.
Let me know if you find a block, thanks.
PrinceE30 11-07-2005, 09:05 PM What's the page for the BMW Club Racing Rulebook?

I have 2 cars to finish before the Roebling race, But after that I should have sometime.

There are two places in the metro area that I know do some of the best cages around. THe first place is Robinson Racing in Cumming just off exit 13 on 400. They do amazing work and have proven winning cars in World Challenge and SCCA Club Racing.
The next one is Richard Martin. He does amazing work and is the best in Atlanta. His shop is off Peachtree Industrial near PDK airport.
PrinceE30 11-08-2005, 12:34 PM Thanks Seth. That's a strong recomendation coming from someone who races with BW.
I've heard of Robinson Racing from a few BMW shops around here. Does anyone have phone numbers for either Robinson Racing, Richard Martin, Rick?
Thanks!

Any of the guys at Robinson can help you out but BJ or Barry are the two that do the cage/chassis work there. Both are very capable of getting whatever you want put in your car.
