In the process of moving to Prepared class, I removed the 100# of lead bricks under my yellow Optima and planned to install a Odyssey battery in a Russ Wiles' battery tray. However, my race shop removed/lost the factory battery tie-downs that I now need for the RW box. I believe that it is a small metal bracket(s) that is screwed into the car that pinches the battery tray down. Do I need two of these brackets? Any pics, part numbers? Thanks.
Here is the box:

Here are the holes in the car:

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but IIRC the light weight Odyssey battery would be illegal in prepared. I thought I read a thread about it a while back when I was going to order one.

In that case, it would also be illegal in Mod. In fact, at no point in the rules does it state that you can replace the battery in any class.

That said, I want every racer to replace their battery with a proper sealed design. In this case, it's an obvious safety issue that has simply never been addressed in the rules.

If you can't replace your battery, what happens when it dies? Are only BMW factory batteries allowed? Or is a battery a battery?

Scott, I think you're looking for part # 8 and 16 (http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=BF93&mospid=47486&btnr=61_0065&hg=61&fg=30)

As long as you make weight, I won't protest you. :D

Brian,

Are you saying it's legal or not? I found the thread that I refered to here:
http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=343035&highlight=battery

I got the impression that a light weight battery would not be allowed from the thread. Or is it just that you can't change the location? There is no mention of it in the rulebook, so I was assuming that a replacement would have to similar to the stock battery.

Sorry if I'm asking stupid questions, but I am also setting up my car for prepared. I already have to take out the solid RTAB:eyecrazy . Don't want to buy something else that I can't use!

I posted a link to the thread that had me confused.

I ran a ltw battery for my first couple of races, but after corner weighting the car it made more sense to keep the stock unit to help weight distrubution.

As the rules currently read (and lacking any official clarification), NOTHING but the stock battery in the stock location is legal in Stock, Prepared, and Modified. However, common sense tells us that you should run a sealed battery in a race car. I don't care, and I can't imagine any racer protesting you for running a lightweight, sealed battery. It's a safety issue from my standpoint.

Sounds like this is something that needs to be submitted for clarification and a rules change. Till then, feel free to protest us for our illegal battery.

mental note: protest the Watts car at roebling :stickoutt

seriously though, as long as the car makes min. weight i don't care what kind of battery it has in it...

i had to replace mine recently and just used a stock replacement from batteries plus since the rules dont mention batteries anywhere...

Let me get by one race so we can try to reset the lap record. After that, protest away. :)
