Ok guys, I put in the 36lb'er and I running a vortech at 11 psi on my 99 m3 cooled w/ water/alcohol. I started up the car and it idled fine. So I took it for a very short drive and my exhuast started popping and the car felt like it would not go. I pulled back into the driveway and the idle was fine but the exhaust was popping every 3 seconds.

My engine check light came on and I read the codes:
Adaption limit on all cylinders and misfire in cylinder 4.

I checked all the injectors again. Then I started the car and it idled fine but every once in a while the exhaust popped. The popping is not that loud. I took it for a little drive and it was fine. But still a slight popping noise from the exhaust.

I am wondering whether the car just needs time to adapt. I disconnected the battery and will check the car in a few hours again.

When I upped the boost (7-11) I was told by Jeff (RMS) to get soem 36'ers instead of the 31's. I will be taking the car to a dyno shop to get custom software tunning soon.

Also, when I first upped the boost (with 31's) I used to hear the slight popping noise nbut it went away for good. But now it is back.

So what do you all think?

To add, I just reconnected the battery. I started the car and it did not start easy. It took a few seconds and then it idled fine.

I took the car for a drive again for about five minutes and the car drives fine. I redlined it in 1st and 2nd and the power was veru smooth. When I had the 31lbers the car felt hesitant in the high revs.

But when I park the car with the engine running it starts to make the popping noise again. But no check engine light this time either

Do you guys think its just needs to be fine tuned? Or is it alot more serious than that?

Thankyou for any help
Jay

Jay,

Let me get this straight.. you use to have 31lbs injectors then Jeff sent you 36lbs yet you didnt get any software to go along with that?

If so that could be the problem right there. Your current software is only programmed for the 31lbs injectors and not the 36lbs injectors. Your additive and muliplicative adapation values must be going up the ying yang! The DME is getting confused in how much fuel to add and the popping noise could be the unburned fuel being ignited in the exhaust system.

Where do you plan on getting the tuning done to your Siemens Engine Mangement System? I highly recommend that you contact AA and see if they can do the programming for you. They've done programming for supercharged M3s and got some good gains as well.

For the time being, I highly recommend that you install the 31lbs injectors until you find someone to reprogram the DME to accept the 36lbs injectors.

Thanks Jon. I am planning to take the car in to have it dyno tuned on Tuesday. I went to the 36ers because Jeff told me that I would not be pumping enough fuel into the engine w/ 31ers with 11psi. My main concern is if I am harming the engine in anyway right now till I get the tuning complete?

Thanks again

Also Jon, after I have started the car, i went and took a look at the exhaust and it had gas in the tips (I have DTM tips). So this probably validates what your saying about the unburned fuel in the exhaust system. But will this damage the car?

Well, if you keep driving with those 36lbs yes.

Right now you're gonna ruin your oxygen sensors, the spark plugs, probably create carbon deposits in the combustion chamber, wash down the cylinder walls and contaminate the engine oil with hydrocarbons, and ruin the cats.

Are you sure thats fuel in the exhaust tips or just moisture?
