how many of you guys from the tri-state area especially jersey dont drive your cars in the winter, ive never been through a winter with my car yet and i was wondering if the road salt and other stuff during the winter is really bad for your car.

Yes, of course. My car has survived one winter with me, no major damages...knock on wood. :) BMW's are really not that bad in the snow once you get a set of snow tires.

Last winter i drove my car and it was horrible. I love my my car but it is not for winter. This year I'm going to drive my jeep wrangler. It's a shame too because I just bought some 18's for the bimmer but I'm going to have to wait till spring to really enjoy them. Plus, everybody else on the road turns into a complete moran when there is snow on the ground. I'd rather have someone rear end the jeep. There's a big stock wheel back there:devillook

That's what I was going to buy for my winter car...but I can't afford it right now. I can barely afford my car, forget about insuring another one, and when you have a loan on a car, you have no choice, you need to keep it insured at all times. Therefore, no winter beater for me, just deal with my car during the winter...as much as I hate driving it then.

A cheaper alternative to another car is a good acrylic based sealent. The klasse system works great. and you can use it without a polisher, it just doesn't work as well. Claybar your car then use Klasse AIO. Follow with the Sealent Glaze. Use a small amount of SG, work it in and let it sit as long as possible. Use a second coat if you want. This will probably give you an extra edge on road salts. If you want to protect your car even more, stoneguard the front ot it. You can get stoneguard through www.apexcone.com it is a clear plastic "bra" that you can hardly see.

I just put mine away for the winter, not totally since we do have a few nice days here and there. I did the math on a nice set of alloys and snows and it was only about 500 more to have a winter beater. Insurance wise it is not as bad either. Once you have more than 1 car you get the mutli car discount. My honda accord is only costing me 4 dollars a year to insure.

Yeah, that would not be the case in Boston :) More like $800 more a year!

Get some Sealant, Klasse or Menzerna FMJ at www.properautocare.com The menzerna is new, and is supposed to be wickedly easy to apply like Klasse, but better. The Zaino system is also an option, but way too much work. But if you are asking about that stuff now, and you are in cold weather already... too late. It is suggested to apply those products at 70 degrees F or above.

I just wax my car twice a year and that seems to work just fine :)

Too bad your wax only last 1 month after application. That's why sealants were made =).
