If i were to have motegi wheels, with the correct bolt patttern, and I know that they fit.... but right now they are on my jetta.... would there be issues with useing them on my 2002?

You've also got to consider the offset (which will affect how far outboard or inboard your wheels will sit). I'm not sure what the stock offset is for 2002 wheels (hopefully somebody can fill me in as well). But in any case, its a much different offset than most FWD cars.

Correct 02 wheel specs are 4x100mm stud pattern (4 holes x 100mm centres) and offset ET+25-28mm (that is 25mm from the centreline of the wheel to the mateing surface of the wheel (+ = to outside of the wheel, - = inside of the wheel). So a 6" wheel has 4" from the mateing surface to the inside rim (3" & ET25=4") and 2" from the mating surface to the outside rim. I think the rims on a Jetta are more like ET44, so on a 6" wheel thats 4.73" on the inside (max is 4.5" on the inside - they will hit the struts). I'd look to older RWD (rear wheel drive) cars for wheels, as newer FWD have higher ETs. Beaner7102

Yes you can use spacers, you may also need longer studs to tighten up the lug nuts enough. Beaner7102.

How about a set of early Miata rims ? These would be 14x5 size, 4x100mm pattern. RWD car, of course.

I agree with Beaner.. but there should not be much worry trucidatio.. I am using bbs rs rims from a first generation vw corrado and they are fine. The only aspect that worries me is if they suit the car.. Montegis on a 2002?

Alright so the recommended offset it between 20 and 30 right? so what if I were to go to a 35? what are the negative effects of that?

First, it also depends greatly on the tires you select. The wheels listed below fit fine, and won't rub by themselves on any suspension or fenders. It's all in the tires. Tire size selection also affects speedometer/odometer readings.

E30 3-series alloy wheels, commonly known as "bottlecaps" are 14x6 ET35. With 195/60-14 tires they generally fit straight 02's, with some rubbing in the front when hitting driveways, etc. Some may put thin spacers on front to compensate. Others may use smaller 185/60-14, but this gives more speedo/odo error.

E30 steel wheels are 14x5.5 ET35 and also fit with a bit more clearance tot he strut tube and ball joint.
