Do you think 600 bucks to more than fair for a late 70's 2002, runs really well, but pretty rusty. Its green, and has tan vinyl/leather interior... Its for sale here locally and I am thinking about picking it up... sorry I don't have pics or exact year.

If its pretty rusty be prepared to spend a lot of time or moeny fixing it. But $600 for a runner...i'd probably buy it. Worst comes to worst you could always part it out.

What would I expect to pay for an all around decent 2002 I would like to get one, and I just happend to see this one today... I have been really thinking about getting one for the last few months.. I like the earlier ones the best. What could I expect to pay?

I can do all my own body repairs etc.. I would like to have a decent car to start with.. I may let that one pass, but I am going to look at it again tomorrow.

$600 is about right for a parts car. If it runs... bonus.

Its really hard to say how much. I'd say a good running, clean, zero rust pre-74 can run as much as 4-5k, a tii as much as 8k or more. The round tails seem to bring a bit more than squaries, but IMHO they're all cool.

But again, one with some surface rust can be as little as $100 (I scored one like that).

If the rust is only surface and doesn't hit the key areas.. shock towers and so on, you can get a great deal on one that only needs some cosmetic work.

There are other factors like if the PO put on after market goodies like bilsteins, dual carbs, suspension upgrades, and so on those might bring the price up on an otherwise non-remarkable car. Those kind of parts have value even if the car won't start -- like if it has alpina rims, but is otherwise a rust bucket it still might be worth quite a bit kinda thing.

Hard to judge w/out pics. If you are just starting out i'd go for as little rust as possible and take it for a spin. If it drives nice, little rust, figure maybe a grand or a bit more if the interior is really nice.

my 02 cents :)

When i bought mine 6 years ago i picked it up for $2500. Today expect to pay between 3-5k for a good runner with minimal rust. Of course, you WILL end up spending more if its stock.

Just bought a parts car ('74 Ti) today that runs very well (rust in rockers on drivers door - RHD - and a little in truck and hood lips) for $350. Guy threw in a rust free, complete (but not started for 5 years) '79 320i for nothing! Who knows what's worth what sometimes ...

If you have the means check into some of the California '76 models. Thier gettin pretty cheap here because of the new smog laws. Chances are you could pick up an nearly rust free one for a little.

I managed to take one really crappy picture of it today... The shock towers were rusted pretty bad, and over all the rest of the car would have needed a ton of work, way more than some rust repair... I am going to keep my eyes ope, and watch for other car. Condition of the car isn't that big of a deal for me, if the structure is good and it runs good, I am interested... I want to buy one to drive, and slowly work on. After I get out of college I would be looking into doing a restoration. I guess we'll just see what I can find...

Stay away from any that have rotted shock towers or floor pans unless thats a headache you want to tackle.

I know no rust is good rust, but if pan and shock towers with tin worm are to be avoided is sill rust an easier proposition to repair?

Thanks

sills can be repaired, but 95% of the time the damage is MUCH worse than it appears.
