Hey everyone. Here's my situation:
I just acquired a 91 318is. It appears the previous owner was using a messed up, bent key which apparently has destroyed the lock tumblers on both sides. The drivers door is unlocked, and cant be locked. the passenger side is stuck locked and cant be unlocked. no pulling on the inside lock pin can occur, they are stuck. i can get in and out of the trunk okay, even lock it. but i cant lock/unlock the rest of the car from there- there doesnt appear to be any electric response. When i first picked the car up, the key WOULD go into the doors, and i was able to lock/unlock it. Again, like i said though, the key was bent and it soon wouldnt work at all. I have a new key which starts the car, etc., but it still wont go into the door.
So I guess this is what Im asking: Is this likely just a matter of broken key mechanisms- the likes of which could be solved by mechanism replacements or keyless entry? -OR- are we looking at an electrical issue possibly? Im hoping for the former, as I have NO idea how to get the lock mechanisms out of the door. Id rather just hook up the keyless and push a button for instant problem solving bliss...
Any help would be appreciated, thanks!
