View Full Version : Moving to SC
laxwmatt 10-25-2005, 03:41 PM Looks like I'm going to be working in Cheraw, SC for the next few months.
does anyone know the area and can help me out? I'm getting full relocation, but the more info the better. It's only temporary, and hopefully it's an opportunity (and, god forbid, a raise).
also, would I stand out in a modded 3er in the area or should I just bring the exploder.
thanks!

Bremsen 10-31-2005, 04:15 PM Wow.....sorry. Talk about the middle of nowhere.....yeh, I'd say you'll be the only BMW, much less a modded one.
laxwmatt 10-31-2005, 06:16 PM the bimmer isn't going... i'll just bring the truck and leave the bimmer in PA with the parents since the move is only for 6 months...
do you have any idea for good places to live within 45 minutes?
Bremsen 11-01-2005, 04:32 PM Unfortunately no. I'm really not familiar with that area inparticular, just mapped it since I've travelled through most of both states and live near the nc/sc border, but never even heard of it. It really is in the middle of nowhere. You might try to looking at Rockingham, NC (~20mi away) to live...but thats about as good as you'll get w/in commuting distance. Thats some DEEP country down there.....think dueling banjos.

how is rockingham? i've also heard florence is okay.. i'm trying to NOT commute 1hr every day one day.
and I'm planning on the whole dueling banjos thing.
i've got a gun on order.
bimmer in storage
I was missing a tooth and should have waited 6 months to get the replacement just so I'd fit in..
what's left?
oh that's right, be willing to find a woman who has teeth, wears clothes NOT from the 80s, and is not pregnant and and barefoot in the kitchen...
(disclaimer: if I've offended anyone with these remarks, tough.)
Best to live in Columbia or on the nearby lake. Really Columbia is a small town but it is a pretty cool place - you'll be surprised. Also, there is a nearby track that is being rented almost weekly by some group or team - Carolina MotorSports Park. Not the best but stilla pretty cool track for nearby. Also if into sportbikes you'll love the area.
Bremsen 11-02-2005, 12:04 PM Columbia is nearly two hrs away (90mi), hell Charlotte is closer. Kershaw (CMP) is 50mi and Florence is 40mi, still a decent drive and I'd bet either would take an hr at least since they're backroads. Florence is the largest town w/in driving distance, I've just never cared for it though.
I just said Rockingham b/c its only 20mi and would have at least some resemblance to civilization. I've driven through it on 74 and stopped for food, but thats about it. You could always head to Charlotte or the beach on the weekends.
laxwmatt 11-02-2005, 12:33 PM thanks for the ideas... I'll look into rockingham... I'm only there for 6 months, so my biggest concern is just keeping myself entertained. without the bimmer, my social life will consist of golf, golf, golf, women, golf and women.
anything else might put me into a suicidal state.
Graham325 11-02-2005, 10:52 PM I live about 5 miles away from CMP (the road track) definately a fun activity, oh, and you are wrong the women here arent barefoot in the kitchen, they are barefoot in walmart...duh
BimmerBoyZ3 11-03-2005, 01:11 AM Might wanna bring the bimmer if you are thinking of residing in Rockingham. Cant beat having a decent drag strip in the same town. Plus there are a few bimmers in and around that area.
gooten1 11-03-2005, 11:27 AM Cheraw is pretty much BFE. Florence isn't a bad town, it's got a college and the things that go along with that. What job did you get up there?

I work for Stanley tools, working in their leadership program for operations. I have to make one rotation to another plant, so this is it.
Not sure what i'm doing for them yet, but something involving saving money that I'll never see a percentage of.
where are you located?
also, where should I live. Any good recommendations for cities or even places?

while I'm at it...
what do people know about the towns across the border in NC, say Monroe? I wouldn't mind putting myself within driving distance of Charlotte?
