i just got a E30 m3 about 2 weeks ago from NJ. well i live in MD it does not pass inspection here but it will soon. my main question is what the best way to make good NA power with these cars i could guess 2.5L/ cams/ CF air box/ chip? but IS that the best way? I am in the process of finishing up a turbo E36 m3 so want to keep the E30 NA. also when i search for parts for the car alot of them i can only find on german web sites.. ne one know if someone in the states carry some of the euro parts?
thanks

well if you're looking into the CF air box route, i'd forget the chip and use a system like MAXX alpha N that loses the AFM. That is the single most restrictive part on the US motors. Without out, your CF airbox can't do it's job. You will get more power from cams, Alpha N with some head work then going with a 2.5L bottom end (and cost less).
The ultimate NA motor would be less restrictive, so open intake (no AFM) CF box, larger TB and Horns, cams, headwork, header and exhaust, with either a piggy back system (Maxx) or stand-alone system. Then add the 2.5L bottom end for more low end grunt :)

for Alpha N, head over to www.s14.net or the SIG group and get a hold of John (screen name). You will also find group buys from time to time. I think there is a carbon box and Alpha N kit in the classifieds on s14.net as well right now.

What would be the more common initial mods to a stock e30 M3? eg exhaust, chip, alpha n, etc? No plans on internal mods (head, bump displacement, etc).
What kind of HP/Torque increases can be had w/ simple bolt on stuff ?
thanks

Most basic, common mods are: k&N, evo airbox/snorkle/vent covers, chip, exhaust cam gear, and cat-back exhaust-that'll net you ~10 HP and 10 ft-lbs of torque (a little more if you can ditch the cat). After that, people tend to go to cams (good for another ~10-15 HP).
