View Full Version : Low Beam Failure NOT related with HIDs

So a week ago, my left low beam went out. Thinking it was only the bulb, I didn't worry too much, since I have my fogs and city lights to cover me for the time being. Tonight, I popped open my hood and replaced the bulb with a new one and still had the problem.

I swapped the right bulb to the left side to see if that would work, and the bulb did not work. I then checked the fuses... 12/11/25 all seemed fine, so I concluded that wasn't the problem. I started to check the connections to my ZKW assembly and noticed that they were all in tact, and nothing has been burned or mutilated.

In short... my left low beam doesn't work, and I've checked everything... wire connections, fuses, bulbs, and they all seemed to work fine. I used my silvania silverstar bulb AND a regular silvania H1 bulb to see if that was the problem, but both didn't work. Is there something wrong with my ZKW headlight unit? The city light still works on both sides. Are there any other connections I should check? Any other DIY tests I can do narrow down the problem? It's starting to get annoying because my car looks like a retard in the dark. I'm getting my Xtec Race HIDs within the next week, and I'm hoping that I could fix the problem before then. Any input would be GREATLY appreciated!

I'd grab a voltmeter and start by testing the power at the bulb, should be 12v+ on the yellow wire and 12v- at the brown wire inside the headlight. If you don't have power there, test at the factory 9006 connector where it plugs in your headlight's plug-and-play harness. Keep working your way back though the wiring until you find power and then figure out why it's not reaching the bulb from that point. Could be as simple as a bad crimp or a loose pin.

Sounds like a plan, i'll try that as soon as i get home from school. Thanks, I'll report back here if it resolved the problem!

turns out it was a variety of errors.. loose wires in my PnP, dead fuse and an unresponsive bulb. Funny how i checked all of these things one by one, and they didn't work, but changing all three worked =) Thanks!
