The e30 M3 was made before the "M" stood for marketing.

For real, there's a lot to learn about the e30 M3, it was produced so BMW would have a car to race in the touring class, which it has more wins than any other car. The motor, flared fenders, spoilers etc were all built to conform to the rules in its class. You'd be better off checking out s14.net for more info on the e30 M3, you could spend a day reading on that site.

Perhaps the new E90 M3 will bring it all back, unless its overweight(likely)

Yes, I've owned both the E30 and E36 M cars and I think they each are wonderful cars in their own right. To make statements like "The E30 M3 is the real M3" is ridiculous, not to mention ignorant.

The E-36 M3 is a "real" M3. So is the E-46 M3.

But the E-30 M3 is a racing homologation special, with racing intent taking priority.

The E-30 M3 is a true modern "classic" for sure, but not so sure on the other two...

I have owned a 95 M3 and now own a 88 Alpine white M3. BOTH are great cars and each are special in different ways. Saying that though I would not go back to the E36 after driving my E30 now. The E30 M3 is the most wonderful car I have ever driven.

The e30 M3 the greatest BMW ever driven. The power, handeling, the smooth ride. Oh wait that's any BMW opps well it's a nice car yep sure is.

People seem to dislike the E36 because it was so mass produced. The E30 M3 is more of a collector piece with only over 13,000 produced in the US, and for me that is more important when owning one. The E36 is going to wind up like the 320i someday, basically worthless, with exception to the lightweight, which was limited production car. From a performance standpoint, the E36 is so much more powerful, and in my opinion, more fun to drive than the E30 M3. I have had both cars, and recently sold my E30 M3. I will most likely own another one someday, just to round out a collection, but from a drivers perspective, you cant go wrong with an E36.

The only difference from a 325 and M3 is the badge. The M also has an rare limited run aftermarket EREBUNI Kit from China:redspot :buttrock :nono

I almost forgot, it has a 4 cylinder Intergra engine with a Motorport Valve Cover.

It was assembled in Mexico.

This is why it is special.

I'm going to have to dissagree with you there. I'm gonna go ahead and say the Porsche 944 Turbo or the Subaru WRX STi.

the s14 is a beutiful engine, but when i was in the market i drove quite a few, and then i came across my little devil. the s14 is too expensive too maintain and to get power out of. But thats my oppinion, when im older i would love to have a true e30 m3 with the s14 engine, but would want it for a concourse car

Have owned both also. Miss the E30 M3. But the E36 M3 is much bettter for me to drive daily in traffic. Hope to one day buy another E30. It along with the E28 M5 are truly rare cars and not many people understand what they are about.

Huh? Europe got the 2.3L non-Evo2 cars for 2 years before the first Evo2. How is that "watered down" marketing strategy? It's an honest to God hand built S14, isn't it? Not some glorified M10. Not to jump on the E30 vs E36 arguement, just saying that US E30 M3s are not "watered down". Marketing came into play when they sold the Cecotto and Ravaglia Evo2 M3s, cashing in on the E30 M3's success in Touring car racing. They never sent those cars to the US, so we were actually spared from the marketing aspect. Not trying to defend anyone's comments here, either ("[N]ot rolling with the proper lump..." ? Speak English. ;)), I just don't see the logic in your statement.

Oh, and how many racers, car journalists, and car junkies would say that an E30 325i is nearly equal to an E30 M3 on the track? I didn't think so.... :evil2

maybe they changed the name i do;nt know ,my statement was that M does not stand for Marketing and guy was Robert M Powel and later BMW started to name it as "M" Motorsport
