I'm moving to Aurora, and just put a new set of tires on my 97 540i. 245/45/17 Toyo Proxes 4. They are great in water, but we don't get much snow in OK, so I don't know what to expect.
Anybody run these tires in the snowy states? During the winter?
Any info much appreciated!

I had Toyo Proxes about two years ago. WORST tire ever in the snow (they weren't designed for it). I'm not exactly sure about the ones you are talking about though... the "4" is new to me.
btw, I lived in Colorado Springs back then.

In that size, an all season tire like the 4 is going to be compromised in real snow. If this is your only car and means of transportation, I strongly suggest buying a set of wheels and real snow tires.

For clarification, here is a link to a pic of the tire:

Edit: Thanks Doc.
Yah those dont look too bad but theyre certainly not great. And in Aurora, how much snow are you really going to have to deal with? The snowplows should have your streets pretty clear anyway.
It's up to you. I live in Boulder and managed to drive the BM an entire winter on sport tires once.

If your 540 is your every day driver you should just buy a good set of snow tires. The winters here can be quite interesting, it can accumulate pretty quickly and trust me you don't want to be caught in you bimmer on those tires when we get 8 inches of snow all of a sudden. However, as quickly as it comes it will be gone the streets usually only take a day to clear up after a snow storm. Those tires in the snow here could make for one long and dangerous morning commute. So I would highly recomend you look into a set of snow tires.

The Proxes 4 is a high perf all season. I've encountered snow with them and they were OK but I wouldn't count on these as your "snow" tire. If you are moving to the snow belt, get snow tires. You will be safer and happier for it.
