I am hoping that someone somewhere has had this problem! I have a 2000 318se (I know its only a 318 but I bought it for doing lots of miles in every week as it was cheaper to run than my 325!) which I have had for about 6 months now. When I purchased it, it had a cheap induction kit fitted. I replaced it with the original airbox straight away and within 100 miles the management light came on and engine sounds rough. It was diagnosed as a mixture fault and BMW main dealer had it in to reset. Within 25 miles light came back on again so they replaced the DISA sensor as they found it was split?? All fine for 30 miles and light came back on (sounding rough again!). Back to BMW and they had a fiddle/pressure tested it no fault found, reset light, runs like a dream for 30 miles and then F**kin light comes back on again! I have cleaned the Mass air meter in case there was build up of muck from induction kit, no difference. Engine makes "Pinking" sound when accelerating from low revs and is doin my head in! Anyone got any ideas?? Cheers:mad

If the car had an intake kit that used an oiled filter there's the possibility that oil from the filter has gotten to the MAF. If that happens the oil can carbonize on the MAF sensor and ruin it. There's no way that I know to clean that off the MAF sensor and a replacment MAF would be required.

You may be able to prove that's the case by disconnecting the MAF. The car will run, using default values, with the MAF disconnected. If that smooths out the idle you are on the right track.

Cool! Thanks, I will give it a go and see what happens.
