I saw a cheap 72' 1602 on the weekend with a 2L motor (engine number from 2002). What is different on the 1602 that cant be used on the 2002? I know brakes are single line, it has a short neck diff. What else is different?? I'm keen to buy it but just not sure. TIA Beaner7102 :help

The only other differences that i know of is that 1602's didnt come with anti sway bars. And the motor, obviously.

I've heard that there are very very few differences, but I don't know it from personal experience.

Besides teh FAQ you can always look at www.realoem.com.

Just open two windows -- one on the 2002 and the other on the 1600 and start clicking!

I know that 1602's had a different brake setup than the 2002. If im not mistaken it was smaller front calipers. A big upgrade for those cars is to swap over to the 2002 stuff. Not sure of other differences though. At one point i almost bought one, but it was a rusted out hulk, which was just unacceptable for the area im in (socal, land of rust free cars).

Check out www.bmw2002.co.uk/technical.htm

They list the 1600's as produced thru to the mid 70's - they may not have been sending them to the U.S., doesn't mean they weren't still selling RHD 1602's to Australia (where Beaner is), England certainly, South Africa, New Zealand, etc

OI send those 1600s down under!

sheesh that old 1600 seems in pretty good shape .. no reason to buy it for parts. Get it and drive it!!!

I own a 1600 and the 2 differences are brakes and engine. All 2002/1600s had small neck diffs.

actually the '72 year model of the 1602 might be almost the same as the 2002 with the only difference being the engine.
