I am planning on using Matson from Oakland, CA to the Big Island to ship the M Roadster. Has anyone every used this company? And if so...was it a good or bad experience. And if anyone has some other moving companies for clothes and furniture they can recommend that would be great! Thanks in advance! :)

Yes I used Matson, not by choice. It is what the military used. My car came back very, very dirty. and they bent the rear tow hook about 40 degrees down. Gave me 250 bucks in compensation for it. If I had a choice I would use those "hide your ride put inside" (can't remember the name of the company). They stick it in a conex box to seal it from the elements.

I used Matson for my X5, from Los Angeles to Maui. Other than my car sitting on the dock over on Oahu for about 3 weeks (completly exposed to the elements) the car showed up in perfect shape, dirty, but no damage.

I've shipped via Matson twice.

First time was not pleasant experience. Front right corner of the car was smashed and a fork (of a giant fork lift) was poked through a tire. I lost financially on that one.

I also shipped my E36 from Long Beach. Took 8-10 days to get to Honolulu, then close to three weeks to arrive on Maui. Car was in fine shape though.

Don't sweat it.. :lol

I would use Pasha or Horizon. I used Horizon to bring mine out and had a great experience.

yup used matson earlier in the year no problems. shipped a truck so upset a bit they didn't let me bring anything at all in the bed but in the final analysis it's for the best as would probably get stolen in transit anyways. expensive then and now probably even moreso.

I shipped my M roadster from Florida to Honolulu with Matson for the HI leg. It was freshly waxed when the truck picked it up in FL and when I picked it up in Honolulu it didn't have a mark on it. Not even dust. I shipped the same car BACK to LA when I sold it, and according to the buyer, it came perfectly as well.

I used Matson (military). Car was dirty, but in perfect shape. I'm going to try and use someone else next time, for my piece of mind (a 530i costs a lot more to fix than a Civic Si).

These horror storied even got me nervous!

I am trying to ship one car to San Diego for my school courtesy of the military... and not through matson. They will put it on one of the Navy boats, this might be worse than matson but overall should cost me less than 80 bucks! :redspot

Good luck to you! Keep us posted. I know my second vehicle will be shipped through matson.

I will have to look into Pasha. I think I will do that today. Yeah the prices were not bad on Matson's website. But you get what you pay for I guess. I worry about my car after hearing some of the horror stories. I would be very pissed if the car got damaged along the way. I think having it in some kind of container would be the way to go. I mean most companies want the car to be clean when they get it, but from a few of you the car ends up dirty when you receive it. Thats not cool or fair. LOL I hate worrying about this. *sigh* If anyone has names of good shippers they had good experiences with, please post! Thanks!! This move is becoming nerve racking. I dont even car about my other personal belongings. Its just my car that I worry about. Call me crazy. :)

For personal stuff we used DXH. Really good company. If you only have small stuff (just boxes) you can take it down to their warehouse in Oakland yourself so it will be cheaper. They charge to pickup, but they will deliver it to you on this end for free. Be cool to the guys at the warehouse and they will "under-estimate" the amount that you have. We gave the guys a few sodas and they saved us a few hundred bucks. :buttrock

Sounds good 95Dinan3! I will look into that. I am not to concerned about the cost since the company is giving me $3,800 to play around with for shipping costs in addition to the car shipping. All I am bring is clothes. Looking for a furnished place, but I think I may have secured one already. Besides if I cut out of the job in less than two years I have to pay all the relocation money back. That would sucks. So I am trying to be wise about the whole situation since I dont know what to expect yet. You guys on Oahu will have to come visit me! hehehehe:cool Imagine if I buy the guys in the DXH wearhouse a pizza! Maybe they will ship my boxes for free. hehehehe I can dream, cant I?!

Never used Matson, and never will.
I used Horizon to bring my M coupe here from Texas, but if I was to do it again, I would use Pasha.
I have taken a tour on Pasha's ship, and it is spanking clean, totally enclosed, and you get your car asap. If they are good enough for Porsche, they are good enough for me.
Unfortunately, they only have one ship right now. When I took my tour, about 3 months ago, the price was $899 to ship a car. I'm sure the fuel prices have had an affect on this price though.

BTW, Welcome to Hawaii!
And don't catch too much sun, or you WILL be sorry when you get older.
