View Full Version : PC AIO and SQ went bad!
cosmom3 10-17-2005, 01:43 PM So after my PC cable came along with my Klasse AIO and SQ I was quite excited to get down and dirty.
My routine went
Wash
Clay
Wash
AIO Orange Pad
SQ White Pad
Now the problem is not only is the " spider web " effect still there, im seeing holagrams and swirls...........
Not what I had in mind at all.
Any ideas in where the hell my little project in progress went wrong?
Car looks great, its not extensive at all, but to the trained eye flaws noticeable.
Thanks for any help

cosM3os 10-17-2005, 03:03 PM First of all, you didn't use a polish, so you can't expect to get rid of swirls. AIO is a cleaner with very little useful abrasive quality.
hal9000 10-17-2005, 03:25 PM Your routine just stripped all the fillers and stuff off the car that were there previously. Without using an abrasive polish, you will not remove swirls.
Laxpunk2006 10-17-2005, 04:58 PM Yep, just to reiterate what they were saying, AIO has VERY little abrassives in it. It's more of a chemical cleaner than polish. You're going to need something like 3m FII or SSR to remove those swirls.
Steve530 10-17-2005, 06:52 PM Yep, try 3M FI3 on the orange pad, AIO on the white pad. If the SQ is actually SG, you might try using a gray finishing pad for that or a MF bonnet.
Are you telling us that the swirls and holograms appeared after polishing?

Looks like the swirls came along with the SG . Kinda strang I have been told AIO is a great for getting scratches out. I have read about the 3m stuff, but I guess never seriously considered it.
Still looks awsome, but I didnt get the results I was looking for.
Are you saying use a MF bonnet for applying or removing? and as long as I did AIO this weekend along with claying would you all say my routine could be...
wash
3M F13 on orange
Back to back SQ applications 24 hours appart
Then top with my pinacle?
Btw car is garaged and only driven 4 times a week, and not driven to work.
Thanks

MJFX328 10-18-2005, 01:50 PM put SG on by hand with a good MF towel. thatll get rid of your holograms
donoman 10-18-2005, 04:07 PM Are the swirls oily and do they move when you wipe the surface? Can you breath on your car and see the swirls? If so that's the SG and you applied too much.
However for the spiderwebs, you need an abrasive like 3M Machine polish. Use machine polish liberally, use AIO/SG conservatively.
Idz21 10-18-2005, 04:28 PM Just wanted to jump on the bandwagon that AIO simply removed all fillers and actually revealed how massively destroyed your paint surface is.
It seems to me as if a less than skilled individual used a rotary on your car which brought about the holograms. The spider webbing is a general result of washing and drying in circular motions.
A little PoorBoys SSR 2.5 on a Green or Orange pad will cure your swirls and holograms. Then follow that up with SSR 1 to cure any paint marring that resulted from SSR2.5. Sealt it, wax it, and you're good to go.

Take a good look at the surface from the side ay a low angle. Do the switls look like ridges or valleys? If you have clear ridges, you may be looking at ridges of SG that were not removed.
I've had this problem with SG when I used a pad with a coarse nap. The fibers would wipe away the SG and the SG would remain where the spaces between the loops went over the surface. This sort of build up of SG could be the entire problem.
BTW, swirls are by definition scratches, they will appear as valleys in an otherwise smooth surface.
If you use the 3M FI 2 or 3, then you will need to follow it with AIO before you apply SG. Think of the AIO as the primer for the SG. So if I were you, I'd try:
1.AIO with a white pad
2.SG applied by hand
3.wait 24 hours
repeat 2 and 3 until you're satisfied.
I use the famous Bill North WOWO method for SG. That is apply SG to a small area, like half a door. Then remove it immediately with a MF towel.
Another tip is that you need to use an applicator with the finest nap you can find. This minimizes the nap removing the SG. I have a very fine nap MF applicator pad that works great. It's a good idea to wet the pad with a little water or QD before you start. THe pad should be barely moist. A very plush MF towel helps with removal.
Another idea that might help with SG removal is to make a solution of SG and water about 6:1, IIRC. Spray this on a MF towel and wipe the surface, then wipe immediately with a dry MF towel. Use it like a QD. The SG would disolve the SG already on the surface. This might actually solve the problem you have now. It would definitely be worth trying on a small area to see if it makes the holograms diasappear.
Good Luck.
