ok i am purchasing a 328is and i have plans to boost it right away. Now my question is i want the gt35r turbo, i am going to do .140 headgasket and arp studs to make sure i am ok with everything, now how do i know what trim turbo to buy? i have a chance to get this turbo for dirt cheap can someone help me and tell me if this would work for my car?
GT35/40R BALL BEARING TURBOCHARGER

.82 A/R EXHAUST

.70 COMPRESSOR

DUAL BALL BEARING -

.82MM COMPRESSOR WHEEL CAPABLE OF .64 Lb/MIN AIRFLOW

BOOST AT 2700 - 3500

OIL AND WATER COOLED

INTERNAL WASTEGATE @ 12 - 16 Psi

My next question is do you guys think i should not buy this one and get one were i can put an external wastegate on it, and also what is the difference of having and internal wastegate and an external one? Thanks for answering my noob questions!!!

PM Card Counter, he would know what to put on the 2.8L. Stay away from internal wastegates too.

Definately get the .82AR exhaust housing for your motor. I'm running this same turbo with the .63 housing on my 2.0L. Also, stay away from the internal gates as they have a tendency to flutter and not hold boost consistently like an external gate. Go with something like the Tial 44mm external gate, but if space is an issue then you can get the smaller 38mm.

CC is using a .82 GT35/40R, that's definately the way to go. As far as wastegates go, couldn't he just change the exhaust housing to a straight, non-wastegated T3 and be done with it? If it's a true GT35/40R and he really can get it cheap, it might make sense. Otherwise, find a GT35/40R with a .82 housing and a T3 flange for an external wastegate somewhere else...either way, it's a kickass, proven setup, and would work well if you are in fact going to go for it.

do they make the gt35r internally wastegated??

Why would you want internal anyways...Just go external

It's the same turbo. People long ago just got lazy and call it the GT35R.
