Anyone live in Carlsbad?

What is the reputation of this place?
Is it as expensive as SD or LA....or is it a bit more reasonable to live there?

Any thoughts or insights would be appreciated.

(Looking at an employment possibility with a company that is based in Carlsbad)

Carlsbad is at the Northern tip of San Diego. Since it is closer to the coast the property value tends to be a bit inflated. I would imagine cost of living is above average in Carlsbad. There is also a lot of new construction in that area and lots of new money. It is still clean and new, gets lots of seasonal travellers, lots of MILFS, not many ghetto-folk, not many bums, and from what I can tell a lot of young families.

Are you planning to buy a home or rent ? You'd probably have more flexibility if you rent and could probably find a place to the south and near the coast in Encinitas, otherwise if you wanted to buy then you're most viable option is to move inland towards San Marcos.

Carlsbad as mentioned is in North County SD and extends from the coast inland to San Marcos. It is a combination of agriculture, industry and lots of new residential construction. So you will see farmworkers, construction equipment and soccor moms. But its very upscale and no slums that I know of. But if its too expensive Carlsbad is pretty easy to commute to, there are plenty of nearby reasonable areas inland to live.

Carlsbad is beautiful like all the areas of San Diego near the beach. This includes Solana Beach, Encinitas, Del Mar, La Jolla

If you want to find a lil cheaper area near Carlsbad, id look at Oceanside, Vista, San Marcos, Escondido area's

North County is generally an average-above average area ... thats very lil poor people in those areas ...

farther south would be considered average to below average income areas

I live in Oceanside, which is about 10-15mins north of Carlsbad.

Good times, real laid back area with lots of businesses and middle to upper class homes.

Take a look at some of these area's mentioned if Carlsbad is too expensive. Escondido is the furthest inland out of all of these, and heading E on the 78 is usually a pain in the ass after 4pm.

I live in Vista and I like it, but I'd definetly say Carlsbad is nicer.

I would say Carlsbad is a thousand times nicer than Vista or San Marcos...but that's just my opinion.

i think Carlsbad and Encinitas and La Costa are super nice areas ... but you pay to live nice ;)

San Marcos isnt too bad cuz you could take Palomar Airport Rd over to carlsbad

i live in Del Mar, which is 15 mins south of Carlsbad ... i love Del Mar, but its lil boring in the area

i think id rather live closer to La Jolla area if i could ;) but i work in Scripps Poway, so Del Mar near the 56 freeway is perfect ;)

I like Carlsbad. It's not as snotty as Del Mar, Carmel Valley and La Costa/Rancho Santa Fe. It has a down to earth feel. MILFS? Oh man, they're everywhere. The ones driving Benzos and wearing leopard skins are mostly in Del Mar/Carmel Valley. Me and my co-workers call them "Del Martians".

Thanks for the input.

If this works out, I would definently look to rent at first, until I get established, and get a better feel for the place. (and pray that house prices come to their senses!!)
