Just completed a driver side frame rail patch with success. Thank god, I dont need to worry any more of the, "Hmm wonder if this will snap it" ..doing hard righties. The thing was so rotted that hardly any of the horizontal sheet metal was left on the rail, but good walls meant a patch would be sufficient. Now for the primer and rubber undercarage spray....

as you can see from the photos mine was pretty rotten, but it was a successful fix and I'm very happy with the end product. I used Aircraft quality steel.

I have a frame that craked and rusted thru where the crossmember attaches to it. It looks like its not even straight anymore. But anyway it will get new subframe to accept a v8.

I love frame rails. I will be redoing 2 sets of them(1600 and a 2002ls) and Im taking a different route to the repair. Instead of patching them, Im going to fabricate a full set and bascially tie them into the pans and hopefully thatll make the car a little bit more rigid. I also be flanging and grooving the metal for additional strength. Then again, I havent even started to paint my tii thats in 1,000 pieces....

What kinda welder did you guys use? 110V, 185, 220 MIGs with gas ?How is the metal penetration on them?
