View Full Version : 130mph...1 hour investigation...They let me go!
M3Romeo 10-12-2005, 12:31 PM Man I got sooooo lucky last night. I was on my way to conneticut, doing around 85 on the sheridan expressway by the bronx river pkwy. So my girlfriend puts down the radio and says was that an undercover cop that we just passed by. I was like "what cops?". I continued doing 85 and at one point i punched to like 130 on the straight away. I looked in my rear view i noticed a vehicle in the distance. I slowed down to about 100-110 looked in the rear view again, and the same vehicle got a bit closer. I looked again few seconds later the vehicle got even closer to me. SHIT, under cover vehicle. Now the highway was narrowing down to 2 lanes from 3 lanes. There was an 18 wheeler on the right side, 2 cars on the left, no where for me to go. So iam thinking what i should do, punch it go to the shoulder on the right or just slow down. So i said fuk it let me punch and go on the shoulder to get around the truck. Soo i punch it and guess what? construction on the right side so i had no choice either slow down or smack into the truck. I slowed down to around 55, right behind the truck, then a quick left into the left lane. SO now iam stuck between 2 vehicles waiting for the car in front of me to move out of the way so i can punch it again to bounce on the cops. My luck the undercover car was right behind the truck with a clear view of my plates. So i was like shit nothing i can do now. So i just stayed behind the vehicle pretending like it wasent me, heheh. They followed me around 1/2 mile before they pulled me over.
All i heard was, "Turn off the ignition, keys on the roof, driver step out of the vehicle" So i come out of the vehicle. "How fast were u driving?" "Honestly, officer, 85?." "85???? You are kidding me right?, cuff his ass!!!" so i got cuffed. "iam going to ask you again, how fast were u driving?" "OKKK sir i was doing 90 and some change" "WHAT, take his ass into the cruiser" So iam chiling in the back seat.
Another cruiser came by. Looking at the car, looking at the door vin #. Then they popped my hood, looking at things, etc. etc... Its been half an hour already they talking to my g-friend, asking her questions, bla bla... soo finally after 1 hour, they came back into the cruiser, "he was like this is your lucky night, iam going to let you go, but if i ever catch u again on my highway speeding, you are never going to see your car again. Do you realize i had to drive 115!!!! to catch up to you???" I apologized shook their hands and was on my way.
I had to cut the story short, heheheh, too many questions about the car and wat i have done to it and what does this gauge do and this button do....hehehe....I guess the nypd does actually have some nice cops after all :)
Grey Phox 10-12-2005, 12:51 PM Damn. You got a horseshoe up your ass. What did he ask your girlfriend?
M3Romeo 10-12-2005, 12:55 PM Who's car is this? How much you bought it for? you have paper work for the car? She was like wat other paperwork besides insurance/reg you need. What are these 3 gauges on the side? why did your b-friend have to press a button to shut off the car...Why didnt you tell him to slow down!!! YOU didnt realize you were driving over 100mph... questions like that...Luckly my girl knows how to drive stick so she had to drive for a few blocks, then we switched drivers...heeheh...They were definetly really niceee. And one of the DT's seem to know about cars and was into cars, and was greeling at the car big time. I was laughing in the back seat of the cruiser. hehehe
JTFormula 10-12-2005, 01:15 PM A buddy of mine had a Euro 928 in 1994. He let his girlfriend take it to Seaside one night when he was working the late shift and he was going to meet her down there after 12pm and go to some club. She was a little naughty girl with a tight leather skirt on and some top barely covering the upper regions. (drool...) Anyway... on the way down the GSP she was passed by a 5.0 Mustang. She went after him and blew past him at 140mph. A cop shot out after her and she pulled over. Long story short, she flirted with him, flashed a little skin, played coy and gave him her "number". It was fake but it got her off.
If that was any of us, well maybe not Romeo, we would be in jail and our cars would be impounded. Ah, the power of Boobs!
M-crazy 10-12-2005, 01:17 PM Dude your sooooo lucky....your ass could have easily been in jail and your car impounded.
To be honest getting caught at 130 is crazy I still cannot believe that they let you go but I am glad nothing happened.
M-Theory 10-12-2005, 01:21 PM :rolleyes, glad to see NY holds people responsible for the laws they break. :rolleyes
M3Romeo 10-12-2005, 02:26 PM Yea man, i was in total shock. I mean getting caught 85 in a 50mph is an automatica ticket. But him telling me he was doing 115 to catch up, and they let me gooo, i was totally shocked! As far as i know NY state law states if you do double the speed limit its an automatic impound of your car. The only thing is that if the car is registered under someone elses name (in my case under my g-friend) then they cant impound the car. They can arrest the driver and then the registered owner would have to pick up the car.
Jeff E39 10-12-2005, 02:37 PM what
your so lucky bro
i have been stopped twice and got wriiten warnings but this is unheard of
maybe I should start modding my car and they'll let me go :stickoutt :stickoutt
M3Romeo 10-12-2005, 02:43 PM hehe, No one believes me man. I cant believe myself. I wish i had a cam to record this :)
Boost Infection 10-12-2005, 03:08 PM Can I borrow that lucky horse shoe that you have hidden in your truck:D

I bet they stopped you for holding up traffic Jeff.
bennyfizzle 10-12-2005, 03:47 PM hmmm, you in the cruiser for a half hour, your girl "talking to cops about your car" i think your girl took one for the team lol.
NYCMPOWER 10-12-2005, 05:02 PM they had no radar, probably no training on how to estimate your speed= no ticket for speeding. but yeah you were lucky. you could have got written up for something else. thats cool that you were able to leave without a summons.
Jeff E39 10-12-2005, 05:03 PM I bet they stopped you for holding up traffic Jeff.
how'd u know :rolleyes
themadhatter 10-12-2005, 05:20 PM they went through your car without your permission or did you grant it?
I'd have flipped on them if they popped the hood on any of my cars. the fact that they have it on tape would be great for when I would sue them for wrongful search.
oh and yes, I think your girly took one for the team as well. they don't need a radar gun to write you a ticket, they can and are allowed to estimate your speed.
glad to see you got off the ticket though.
Effervescent 10-12-2005, 06:14 PM if you do double the speed limit its an automatic impound of your car.

You sure about those two things?
Bear in mind you actually admitted to 90 and change in a 50 not 85. If he ticketed you for 95MPH...that's 45MPH over.
45MPH over is a mandatory $850 fine in NY with 11 points assuming they wouldn't nail you on everything else (equipment/DOT failure, unsafe lane change, blah blah blah) It also the option of the LEO to arrest you and tow the car.
That's just what you admitted to, if the speedo read 130MPH you were probably doing close to 120 and were at 70MPH over. That would have been an unrepairable nightmare.
Also if in Court, they would have required an attorney to bargain with ya. It's at a "lose your license" level of seriousness.
You just dodge a major bullet, My Friend.:alright Probably $2,000 after attorney fee, a plea bargain, the fine and the insurance increases for a few years.
Also regarding the car search, they achieved reason cause, I believe.

for the speed he was supposedly going? possible.
off topic, do you ever travel on rt 78 in jersey? I think I've seen your car going east bound earlier this month.
bimmerman318is 10-12-2005, 06:23 PM hahaha i jus got pulled over the other day....i was doin 100+ in trumbull, ct on my way to work and this unmarked tinted up crown vic was jus cruisin, so i slowed down and thought nothin of it after i looked at his car and saw no lights. so im jus cruise back up to about 110 and im about a 1/4 mile from work and i see this crown vic flyin down the road with his front strobes on, im like shit, pulles my ass over. at this point im already lookin for my registration, he comes up to my car stands there in the rain for about 2 mins and i told him i didnt have my registration, he asks for my name and goes back to his car then comes back and hes like i cant find ur name, i reach in my back pocket to get my lisence and realized i left it in my other pants, i figured i was gonna a get arrested, but about 20 mins of talkin to the cop he let me go with out even a warning. i prolly saved about $1000 worth of fines.
M3Romeo 10-12-2005, 06:25 PM I believe the reason i got lucky was. It seemed like their shift was over or something. They were just your regular street undercover dt, driving on sheridan expressway headed somewhere. If it was the highway patrol i would of definetly been fked BIG TIME! I almost trippled the speed limit, speed limit in that area is 50. I'll tell you guys this much tho, Honesty is the BEST POLICY with the cops! Especially when you see they are nice guys, which in my case the 2 dt's were VERY NICE guys. God bless em
themadhatter 10-12-2005, 06:26 PM oh hell, here's my pull over story from last night.
exit 14 on rt 78 west bound - 1 am?
cop pulls me over for a loud exhaust in the galant and travelling to quickly for conditions.
20 minutes later after seeing I'm not a punk, he says drive safely and have a good night. :D
M3Romeo 10-12-2005, 06:32 PM I was going to ask you guys, ive gotten like 3 more tickets this past week. hehehe....1 for doing 48 in a 30mph zone, which is a bs ticket on a local street...which i plead not guilty and which i will try to fight....and the other 2 were seat belt and loud exhaust. the loud exhaust and seat belt i have to appear in criminal court, i cant just pay these 2 tickets? and should i bring a receipt to court showing that i changed out the exchaust to stock? (friends a mechanic)

themadhatter 10-13-2005, 02:41 AM so true and I was only 14 miles from the border, it would have been an easy run. :rofl
the car rips through flooded roads like it's dry, I love it.
Effervescent 10-13-2005, 08:11 AM off topic, do you ever travel on rt 78 in jersey? I think I've seen your car going east bound earlier this month.

M3Romeo 10-18-2005, 09:59 PM hahah i have a warrant in jersey as well its been like 3-4 years... reckless driving and speeding. Does that warrant ever go away like after 7 years?
thumper3ld 10-18-2005, 11:46 PM hahah i have a warrant in jersey as well its been like 3-4 years... reckless driving and speeding. Does that warrant ever go away like after 7 years?
Shoot, i've had one in nj for god knows how long. Please someone tell us if they go away after 7 years. I'd like to know if i can drive through jersey w/o having to stick to the speed limit.
NY550i 10-19-2005, 12:22 AM Warrant stays till you turn yourself in.
I was told its better do it sooner then later because you can still show up one morning and a see a judge one of these days.
If you show up like 5 years later the fine is more hefty or you can get jail time if its serious.
vtbimmer 10-19-2005, 04:59 PM Which one were you in!?
I was in the Alpina. I wouldnt have gotten arrested if I was driving the e34 since it would have taken me all morning to get up to 73mph:D
And yes Im going to court to plead my case. Worth a shot. Just wish it wasnt @ 8:30 in the morn.:mad
ROBBOTHEHOTTIE 10-19-2005, 05:04 PM I call BS!! no officer is aloud to shack hands.. That part is all bullshit.. but thats sounds like a funny storyy...
