i thought for sure this had been covered before but i couldnt find it. I thought this was as common a problem as the hazard switch but whatever. I seem to have a leak developing into my glove box. I would like to know whwere the common spot is for it to come in. With this rain we are having here i think i may end up just buying goldfish for it- chris

Ahha, During this weekends Monsoon I too discovered my registration and insurance papers floating in my glovebox as well as my passenger side speaker crying. Problem though. The windshield seal has recently been replaced. :confused :help

I dont think so. Worth a look though. I know alot of water goes into the hood vents. Not sure if there is some way of leaking once the water is in there.

From my experiance and as Bill said, could be that there is cancer under the windshield weather stripping. Espesically since the weather is that bad a little bit might be exaggereated due to this. Mine was pretty bad, it was visible cancer and even distorted the seal and it would leak pretty good. Is it possible the locking strip is not placed correctly?

I have the same problem as well. Caught mine quick due to my mini toolbox in the glovey, used quite often. My car is rusting everywhere though so it could be anywhere for me. My gas pedal went through the floor boards yesterday.

This is the primary culprit.
It may appear that everything is fine,
but when I restored my 323i I found significant rust and places where water had ate threw the metal.

Look at this first.

I stopped peeing in my glovebox and the floating papers stopped.

So rust holes or a bad lockstrip seal in the lower right hand of the windshield are the most common causes of a wet glove box. Another potential problem that I havnt seen any real feedback on is the windshield itself- if you get a new one installed that is of lower quality (there are 2 or 3 depending on the installer/vendor) you can get a windshield that wont quite seal up. Now, or windscreens arent that complex, so I wouldnt think this would happen, but I have been warned in the past by installers that the low cost glass might not be exactly the shape it needs to be. This would definatly cause a leak. My parents had this happen in thier 90 525i years ago. The ins. guy talked them into using commercially avail. glass and it wouldnt fit right. Ditto the fender; the body shop said NO to that one. :nono

Good luck, and for a quick fix maybe you can run some silicone in the lower RH corner of the windshield and/or along the bottom of the gasket to glass.

I got a brand new one from the dealer 4 years ago. It doesnt leak, it fits, and has all the same numbers as the original one.

The windshield was recently replaced. Not sure where it was bought from. It looks like the lockstrip has sealed pretty well. I cant imagine water getting in there.
