Should I fear the circular and go with the PC Orbital?

I have a Dewalt adjustable speed circular polisher in very good condition that I picked-up from a friend. I haven't used it yet.

After going to the Griot's show last week, I'm very interested in the PC orbital as it seems almost idiot proof.

Should I go ahead and get the PC and sell the DeWalt, or give the DeWalt a try and go from there.

Also, next year I plan on painting my car myself, and was wondering if the PC Orbital would be good for wet sanding the car versus the DeWalt.

TIA

There's less chance of mucking up the paint with an orbital however - as long as you don't hold the circular in one spot you should be fine. Just make sure you buy good sponge and buff attachments and use the correct ones with the correct polishes.

Does the DeWalt have multiple speeds?

Yeah, its a variable speed DeWalt.

Just dumped some $$$ into the Dealt for foam pads, etc. But after seeing the PC, was wondering if I hadn't made a mistake.

I have a cheapie circular that I have been using with no problems, but the DeWalt is obviously more heavy duty.

All the talk about circulars and how you can burn paint has me a bit concerned.

For paint corrections issues, rotarys require more skill and attention to details, but can save time. The PC is pretty much idiot proof, but takes longer to do the same job.

If you're just applying wax and glazes, then get the PC as the rotary can't do those well. If you want to do paint correction work, then the rotary will save you time, but it's not for the beginner.
