Ok, first time with a nice performance car (98 M roadster) and i need to get some new tires for it.
i just picked this car up and the driver front tire has a big gouge in it, so i need some new tires all around.
I was looking into some Toyo Proxes T1-R tires. Now my sister has some toyo touring tires on her lexus and the car rides like a dream (compared to the stock winter tires we put on it). Thats why i was leaning towards some good performance toyos.
So far i found price wise on these (225/45r17 in front and 245/40r17 in back) for $600 shipped.
any insight on other good brands that wont break the bank?
i'm asking b/c in the winter i drive an acura cl and have stock tires on it, and never really bought nice tires for a car since those road well, and nver had a problem with them. The M on the other hand in my new baby, and want to have nice things for it ;)

i just posted this in another title forum on here but ill give you my advice again anyways, i have been doing research on the internet and asking freinds about tires for a while now since i just bought 17 " M5 wheels, i finally got the wheels yesterday and went to a different place and got myself a set of HANKOOK Ventus V4ES H105 ultra high performance all seasons. ( thats after lots of research believe me) , maybe some guys won't agree with me but thats the kind of tire im looking for, i wanted something that was V,W rated, good looking tire (square looking and not a doughnut), aggressive tread and i can drive all season ( i do not drive my car in winter but if i had to, and felt like driving it on a decent day i wont bite the curb), i have them on the car now and they look awsome, they handle like a dream..car is much more responsive now(but that also could be from going to 17" vs 15") and the tire looks so good on the car. it is a newer tire on the market so i did not find too much writeup about it but i really like it. i have the 225/45/17

I have just put on Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 in 235/40x17 and they are very good. Low noise, great grip in the dry, (no wet yet) balance well. Feel better than the Michelin Pilot Sports I had before.

The Toyo Proxes T1-R are amazing. Good grip, decent treadwear at 260, look good and are priced well. I had to order mine from Japan since none of the stores around me had them. I just bought them. These were a change from my Dunlop FM 901s. I know i haven't had them very long, but i am very happy with them. i also did a crap load of research on tires, and these were rated the best, and are a good price. i would say go with the toyos. i got mine for $150/piece for 17" contours 245/40, just to give you an idea on price. $600 out the door is a good price, that's what i got for mine. I personally think that these are comparable to the Bridgestone SO-3 and Michelin Pilot Sports which are around $200/tire. Good luck.

I second that!
The Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3s have been terrific tires for pure performance. Great in wet conditions, quiet even at the limit of grip, and a very cool looking tread pattern.
I highly recomned them.
P.S. Consumer Reports rated them as their #1 pure performance tire.

i found T1-Rs for 570 shipped and they showed up today. Haven't put them on, but if they are like or better than T1-S, I will be happy.

If you don't plan on driving the roadster in the winter snow you would only be giving up maximum grip by going with all season tires. And what is your driving style? To get the most out of the car go with a good Max Performance Summer tire. Kumho MXs are popular and reasonably priced. The Goodyear F1s are a more expensive alternative.

I got a pair of Toyo t1-r for a very good price from a local dealer.
Price was better then any online store price I can find. My advice is shop around in your local area and don't be afraid to counter offer the price they quote you.
$129 a piece for 255/40/18.
