View Full Version : So, how many folks are from or live in NJ??

Upon joining this site (and a great site it is), I have noticed through reading numerous threads and postings that there are a good number of members that have "NJ" listed in their profile as their "location".

I think that's pretty cool that there are a few members from the area (me being from NJ too).

Exactly how many members are from NJ? and what county are you from? (no need to list exact locations/cities if you don't feel the need to do so).

Chime in if you are from Jersey - and if so, see the thread in the "Meets/Gathering" section for a possible NJ meet, the more the merrier (actually, any surrounding state if you guys want to jump in feel free)....

me = Burlington County

this wouldnt really be in OT if we make plans for a MEET!!

So how about it boys.. since we have SOOOO many NJ heads here. Lets all decide on a meet on a nice Sat afternoon some place in Central NJ so the north and south NJ people and meet in the center.

We can make a meet and a drive.. does anyone know the roads in Flemington? There are some very nice roads up in the mountains there for some "spirited" driving. I used to ride my bike up there and there are a lot of nice roads with noone around.

And I love to check out Mikes 740!

Central NJ is fine with me, I used to work up in Princeton, so I know my way around some...

And yes, I'd love to come! My biggest problem, routinely is my schedule, I work too much, so my weekends are my only down time, and they are usually booked, as a result.

I will do my best to make an appearance somewhere soon! Even if just for an hour to meet some folks! :)

anyone know of a parking lot where they dont mind a bunch of cars loitering in the central NJ area? Or we can hit up a park like Roosevelt park in Edison by Menlo park mall? Its right off Rt 1&9 about a mile from the parkway exit 130. Or turnpike to the parkway to exit 130.

And we can finally take some nicer pics of Daves car for a new sig!

A meet sounds like a bad ass idea to me!!

Wasn't there one in the outer parking lot at the Quaker Bridge Mall (in Lawrenceville) a while back? Did anybody go to it? This seems like a good place to me.... I seldom see more than a car or two in the whole thing and its right off route 1 (not sure which exit number...)

I'd pursue it a little further but I'm in CA right now, and until the Cooper gets delivered I'm carless :dunno

OLD?? i'm only 5 years older than you. :)

i lived at the corner of Bailey Rd. and Rolling Hill Rd., behind Woodside. We used to walk to the Country Store all the time, before i got my Puch moped. :D Didn't the Country Store get torn down or something a long time ago? I know things were growing up around it. The development up the hill from the Country Store was 'newer' when I left to go to college. Did you live down by the golf course?

i drove through a few years ago too, on the way back from Lime Rock one time, just to see how things had changed. Bailey Road looked just the same, but the trees were taller and it was shadier. Park Ridge looked just the same too. Hey, did you know that James Gandolfini (Tony Soprano) went to Park Ridge HS at the same time I went to PV?

My next door neighbor, 3 years behind me, i think, was Cliff Weinstein. did you know him?

Bobby ///M3
08-12-2002, 12:54 PM
Just kidding about the age :)

I know where that is :D I used to go to the Country store all the time. It's still there. I had a Puch MagnumII. My friends and I would mod the hell out of our moped and we got up to about 50mph. I lived not too far from the golf course. I worked at the restaurant as a bus boy for 2-3 yrs (14-16). I never got into golf until I had to for business. I actually got to play there a few years ago when one of my vendors took me on a golf outting. Nice course.

Didn't know about the soprano guy. Did Cliff have a younger brother or sister? There were 2 Weinsteins in my grad class but they weren't related. Brian and Lisa. My sister might know Cliff. She graduated in 86.

so, the country store is still there? cool.

i started out with the big puch, the one that looked like a motorcycle, kinda. i forget the name. it was stolen right from in our garage on bailey rd. i replaced it with a 'standard' model, in green. still don't know the name of that model either.

i played that golf course a few times. my dad's a big golfer and i used to play a lot when i was younger. a bad back, and no time, pretty much doesn't allow me to play now.

lisa was cliff's sister. he also had a younger sister, stephanie. i think lisa was a bit on the 'crazy' side by high school. did you know her well? cliff should have graduated in '86 too, as he was a freshman when i was senior.

Oh, you work in Jersey City? Great!
I am looking to upgrade the car's suspension, but not sure what to get. You know JC has alot of potholes, and I really want the car to be sporty looked but not too stiff or harsh. Bilstein PPS is too much and I don't think I'll ever adjust the heights at all. What other options/setups you think will be best for me.
Your car looks very sporty! I like it.

Stylin
08-23-2002, 12:46 PM
Thanks! :)

Ur best bet to keep a decent height and not bottom out all over JC would be a set of sport springs.. H&R or Eibach, ur choice. And Bilstien sport shocks.. they'll drop u around 1.5 and 1" Front/Rear. I am acutally on that setup but my car is really low for being sport springs.. H&R have been known to be inconsistant in the drops.

even though i still like H&R springs, i'm one of the people that has seen inconsistent heights/drops with their springs. big differences, too. i run H&R sports on both of my M3s and, with just one 5mm spring pad, the M3 still sits higher (with the taller springs) than the LTW with two 7.5mm spring pads. a bit of a pain, but you can work around it.

here's a shot of the 2 sets of rear springs, 1 spring from each set:

H&R drops are inconsistant.. i got lucky and ended up with sport springs that are race height. But H&R springs are known to handle very well. :) Eibachs have been reported to be softer and better for the street.

Bobby ///M3
08-24-2002, 09:18 AM
Willy,

I don't think Eibachs are soft at all. I'm sure the spring rates are less than the H&R Sport but not by much. I think my car with Bilsteins/Eibach is stiffer than some M's I've driven/rode in with Koni/H&R or even Koni/Eibach.

I've met the Pres. and a few employees of H&R and they're great guys. They bought us a round of sake (we were in a Sushi bar restaurant). Just don't buy the springs they make on Fridays. ;)

here's a shot of the 2 sets of rear springs, 1 spring from each set:

from what I see there - you have two different sets of springs. both were the same model but it looks as if there was a design change between the two.

the spring on the left shows two coils that rest over each other as part of the normal install. the spring on the right does not.

that would account for the difference in actual spring height vs actual ride height.

i'm not really sure what you're referring to here. the springs have the same numbers of coils and the same model number. i even positioned them in the photo so the coils would correspond. what do you mean when you say "rest over each other as part of the normal install"? what normal install? the only difference i see is the tightness of the coils and the spring's free length. the spring height and ride height also correspond. the shorter spring drops the car lower than the other spring on the same car. i simply compensated with 'thin' and 'stacked' spring pads. am i missing your point?

themadhatter

mphatic,

check out the first 4 coils on the spring on the left. notice the thin line of surface rust? those coils are designed to rest over each other and stay compressed. When these springs are intalled, the unit on the left will have those first 4 coils compressed were the unit on the right would not. If you can picture what I'm talking about, try and visualize the compression compensating for the increase in it's uninstalled height.

I agree, they are the same model number but I believe the design has changed, similiar to a face lift on a car during mid-production. I take it that the notation on the spring "2/2000" may be refering to the updated design. The model number "29 936HA" would then only refer to the spring's application.

Regards,
Ron

Got my new suspension installed last Sat, Bilstein Sports/H&R Sports + RSM/Z3 combo. The ride has improved alot better; however, it is a bit stiff when I drive over a series of rough roads. It may get better since the setup is still brand new? I hope.
The car looks sportier, even on stock wheels (15"). New rims are needed :), but I'm broke now.
I accidentically turned the car too sharp at a corner, resulted minor damage to the passenger grey sideskirt. Anyone knows a good body shop that I can get an estimate?
Thanks.

a run out to engrish town would be an idea in the spring....say around March? :D

it's pretty central for everybody and it's a good highway drive, no crazy roads etc.

Or an infamous short hills mall meet can be staged. :evil2

as in the rear tires would be spinning causing the car to fish tail the entire trip to the meet leaving a nice trail of tire smoke and carnage behind us.

hence the "driving sideways" statement.
