View Full Version : How much does it cost to re-cover seats?
dmurray14 10-10-2005, 07:14 PM Any of you guys had your seats recovered? My driver's side is torn right down the middle, and it's not getting any better. Passengers is starting to crack...
Any idea what it would cost to recover 2 front sport seats? I guess I could slide by without having the back recovered, since it's in good condition, right? Or would they not match?
Thanks,
Dan
Bump.
I'm in the same situation, except my rear seats are torn. It would be interesting to see how much it costs in US, granted NZ will most likely be more expensive.

hey dan, it's mike. the guy who bought mike vert.
i'm pretty sure he said it would be around $1.5k if i'm not mistaken. that could have meant the whole interior so it might be cheaper. he could probably hook you up.

SpecRaceM5 10-14-2005, 10:44 AM I got a quote from a very good shop with very decent prices to recover all my seats in oem leather, and it was $1400. I think that included removeal and what not. If you take them out yourself and bring them in, I would estimate it being a hundred dollars less or so. I had my rear shelf recovered in oem material and i was quoted 80 dollars over the phone but when I brought it in already out of the car, they only charged me 50. Hopefully thigs gives you an idea.
And I personaly would have the backs covered while you are at it. But in my car its a 91 so everything is old, and my backs have scuffs and what not.
mose121 10-14-2005, 10:48 AM for $1500, why not just have them recovered in alcantara?

alcantara might cost more. not sure. I got a quote for my headliner and rear shelf in micro suede, and it was a couple hundred...dont remember the exact number off the top of my head. I am going to most likely do my seats in leather as it is easier to clean then suede. I will add the m stripes in the corners like on the e36 m3 for a little bit of a custom look.:buttrock

chyya 10-14-2005, 11:18 PM it cant be 1500?! can it? you can buy new seats from the classifieds for that price.
SpecRaceM5 10-15-2005, 03:51 AM the price I was quoted was for the front and back seats, and it was with oem leather. you could probably get it done for less but this is a quality shop im talking about.
JD886 10-15-2005, 10:13 PM Depends.
What color interior is it?
I've reupholstered seats, and your not gona find an exact match, unless you go to a custom shop who will dye new leather. Even then, it won't completely match... textures may be different, optics of the dye maybe be different etc.
What you should do is simply call around junk yards, and people who part cars. Try and get you hands on another front seat and just replace that. Look for about the same year so that you know they used the same leathers and vinyls.
If you don't decide to do that, go here:
www.leatherseats.com
All new seat covers will run you 1000-1200 with all the tools needed to do the job. I can assist you in the "doing". Again the problem you will run into is finding something that will match the door panels, unless you plan on doing those too. Either way you look at it, reupholstering will be over 1000. Finding another seat will be the cheapest route.
If you decide to go the leatherseats route, shoot me a pm, I can help you through most of the process.

wish i could say yes. with all the rain, and since it sits outside :( it started to leak by the driver's side window. got the seat wet as well as the floor in back. :(
also noticed i'm going through power steering fluid like crazy. no "real" signs of leaking (when i park it there isn't a huge puddle or anything), so i'm hoping i just need tighter clamps or just to replace the hoses.
other than that, it's a fun little car to drive. finally enjoyed the topless ride yesterday. wish i could have done it again today, but hey, nj weather blows.
