My idle is very low on start up and even when it reaches the correct temp. The idle is at 500-550 rpm :mad and I have a little sputtering at idle. My 3-series idles at 750 rpm and has the same m50.:help Is it possible to rasie the idle or has some part gone bad?

Sounds like your idle control valve is dirty or malfing. It's the tubular thing inbetween your MAF and the intake manifold.

It's in the Bently manual. All you have to do is unplug it, pop the old one out, pop a new one in, and plug it in. The car will act kinda wonky for about 30 min until the compuiter adjusts for the new equipment.
