View Full Version : Posting from my $250/night place in SF without my MARB

Wow -- this place is nice but it is NOT $250/night nice. There were like 10 different sized pillows on the bed. I kid you not. There were these long roll like looking ones, big fluffy body pillows, another set of those and 4 large pillows. I'm staying at the Park Hyatt in SF.

It is weird ... NO ONE smokes ... even on the street. So, I spent most of the day chewing gum. Plus, it was impossible to find a 7-11 or anything downtown where I am staying at. I was looking merely to buy a diet coke or something and nothing is open ... I mean nothing. The hotel wants $4/small MINI bottle of diet coke.

The computer use is free though :) ... well, I think it is free ... I did have to leave my CC for ancillary charges ... :confused

I have a nice view of the golden gate bridge. It is my first time here. I also picked up some real estate brochures to give me an idea on housing prices. Holy Crappola!!!! I think they have NoVA/DC beat pretty soundly ... there was a listing, wish I could scan it --

It says "quaint cottage, 1 BR, 1 BA, with detached garage and 'quaint' backyard."

Notice how everything in the ad said "quaint" which in real estate talk = SMALL!!!!

Guess how much?

$689,900

There was no view of the ocean or anything like that -- it looked like it was facing a hill and the front a street.

The place is super nice though ... very clean ... I have not seen one MARB here though ...

You're going to get a huge bill.. for the internet. :stickoutt

"quaint" yes, I've heard that term before. 1br, 1ba... does it have a closet and a kitchen? :dunno:

Glad you're having a good time, a MARB and some smokes would make it feel more like home though. :D

RICH!

By definition, wouldn't it be impossible to see a MARB in SF? Wouldn't the mere fact that it's in SF disqualify it from being a MARB? :confused.

Well, had to come back down and use the computer again for research.

They DO offer a free shoe-shining service. :) So, I took advantage of that. They also have these AWESOME bathrobes. I wonder how much they cost. I got thirsty and used one of their $4/bottles of diet pepsi :( ... they do have nice amenities though, 24 hour dry cleaning service (can do it all within 3 hours of notification, 24 hour business service ... etc).

I was hoping to see a MARB ... :) ... but, I see a lot of honda's in which I could yell out, "VTEC, shyt dat's fast!!!"

This place is nice though. Very expensive. According to salary.com or mysalary.com -- it costs 46% more to live here than in D.C. I do not think it is THAT much more ... but, who knows. The other place I interviewed at, it costs 40% less to live there ... lol ... so, huge swing based on geographical location!

There are also a lot of BMW's though ... I mean A LOT ... A LOT of NEW E90 BMW's are on the road ... RICH!!!

Housing is expensive -- but, I am more worried about the state taxes and the fact I would have to pay sales tax on ANY car to register. I believe state taxes is around 9.3%

Must seek out sugar momma tomorrow :stickoutt

p.s. - everyone should try to interview out of state at least a couple of times. I had to choose b/w the Ritz Carlton and this place -- next time, Ritz Carlton :D.. I heard this place was nicer so tried it out. The bathroom is almost the size of my BA in my place

POOR!

I wanted one of the cheapies at first but, they are not very good. Plus, you cannot get them in the larger sizes (mine is a 21 inch). I think, if you are going to buy one, might as well get a good one. And if you are going to get a good one, might as well get the best. My posts look so much better through my $1200 21" flatscreen monitor.

Back on topic, how many of you guys have an AmEx Black? I just got mine. It is nice, but .. I expected nicer. Granted there is no credit limit, and it gets me into the nicest restaurants without reservations but... it is not very impressive looking.

I'm looking to trade it for a nicer card. PM me if interested.

It shouldn't be a problem for you IF you have a man to do those things for you. The guy I hired was expensive, I pay him $100 / day to do miscellaneous tasks for me BUT... it is worth it. Do you really want to have to deal with your own dry cleaning, grocery shopping, etc? I do not.

The only downside is he did not have a car, so I had to give him one of mine. Then he said, "I don't like the SC400" so I bought him an LX470 Lexus. But now I'm thinking of firing him and hiring someone new.

Hey JV, didn't know times were tough for you. I have a half eaten $25 sandwich (made with procuitto and gorgonzola imported from Italy, drizzled with a rare balsamic vinegar and extra virgin olive oil-also imported from Italy. All on a croissant that was imported from Paris this morning) I can fish out of the garbage for you if you are hungry.

I am pointing my finger at my $500 flatscreen and laughing. The finger I am pointing with has a $1000 ring from Tiffany's on it.

Ahhhhh...now I am going to sit back and prop up my feet (with $350 Ferragamos and $50 Burberry socks on them) on my desk and think about how much money I spent over the weekend. $$$$

Oh guys, if you are looking to buy a new BMW, don't go to Russell BMW.

I went in there looking for a new beater (fully loaded '06 645Ci vert) and the fukkin' saleman offered it below sticker to "get me" to buy it. :rolleyes

What a dumbazz. I walked right out.

Does anyone know of a good dealership that sells with a dealer markup or at the very least will abide by sticker price?

TIA!

645 as a beater? I am laughing at you. I need to call my assistant over so she can wipe my tears with my $1000 embroidered Gucci hankerchief.

I just got back from FMoW and they offered to make an F430 sedan because they like being in the presence of greatness.

i spent 2 weeks at the Hyatt Regency Embarcadero last month for work. 7-11 was directly across the street and is where i had my first meal of gatorade and a spicy big bite as NOTHING was open at 11pm the tuesday i flew in.

you should check out a restaurant called Tadich's grille. i think it's on california, near market st. really good seafood restaurant that gets BUSY at lunch, but it better for dinner. another really good place was the House of Prime Rib on van ness st i think (can't remember the cross st). you wont' get out of there for less than $50 but its GOOD. oh yea, prime rib is the only thing on the menu so ordering is easy. for lunch one day i went to the market at the docks there on the embarcadero and got a really good sandwich from the butcher. the times change for the market so you'd have to check that.

everywhere else i at was pretty good too, but those stood out.

the hyatt regency was a nice hotel, but it was $9/day for wireless internet and the service sucked in my room. the gym was tiny but ok. tv service sucked. bathroom didnt have enough light but i'm a guy so this isnt much of a problem.

i went up to tiburon on the weekend. a place just like you describe was $1.6mil and didnt even have yard b/c it was on the side of a steep hill. the detached garage was about to slide down the hill too. however it did look down on downtown tiburon and you can probably catch a view of some water.
