I have used the search option to find out this information and am even MORE confused. So, I see this as a new question.
I have a FULLY loaded 2003 M3 with NAV. I want to put the stock BMW Sirius unit in it. It is my understanding thus far that you install the unit from BMW ($300-$400range) in the trunk and then connected it too WHAT? and then run power from the batt and then the antenna to WHERE? So, here are the questions:
Do you forefit the CD changer and put the Sirius unit in its place? Or is there an Aux used?
Can you get an antenna from BMW? Does it come with an antenna from BMW? What about placement?
Does it then work through the stock head unit?
I already have an account with Sirius, so do I just give them the ESN off the unit?
Thanks

I don't know if '03 came 'satellite' ready, I know my '02 didn't. I went with XM, using a blitzsafe adapter, and xm commander. It utilized the CD input, so it might not be an option for you. I put the controller in the ashtray...perfect fit.
I know I'm not answering your question completely...but if you run into a dead end and need some options, shoot me a note.

Thanks...the one thing I do know is that I am going to stick with Sirius. My college roomate works for them.

What's the production date? It has to be past 3/03 for the stock unit to work.
Assuming your car qualifies, you hook the stock Sirius unit to the CD changer cable. The antenna plugs directly into this unit. If you want to use a CD changer as well you'll need an adaptor cable that will run from the Sirius unit to the changer unit.
Once its installed hit mode on the HU to switch to it. You'll have to call Sirius with the ESN to activate.

If you need help/pictures let me know.
Here's a how to, but it's quite a bit easier than described if you use a blitzsafe adapter and ditch the cd changer. http://www.my330i.com/mod18.php#M
Here's a comparable player that should fit in the ashtray for sirius. http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/SIRIUS-Starbase-Satellite-Radio-Receiver-SCFM1-/sem/rpsm/oid/117596/catOid/-13091/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do
I spent allot of time research getting this right, so I'll be glad to save you some time if I can. Oh...one other relevant point. I can't stand the thought of having ANYTHING on my paint that doesn't belong...especially a magnet that slides around when it gets wet...and wind up leaving scratches like it did on my buddy's e36 m3. I used some silicone adhesive(rearview mirror glue) and attached the antenna to base of the rear window. Yes, I lose a little reception, but only when stopped under bridges or under dense, dense trees....it's very rare and well worth the 'saved' paint.
It really is a very clean and 'tight' install. No exposed wires, ashtray still closes, radio required zero mods, and sounds outstanding.

Might want to check this out, took 20 minutes in mine. Love the antenna placement. I use the cd changer and the xm.
