don't want to race, or look for trouble
just wondering how well can my car perform
lux packg, S50, shrick cams, 24lbs injectors, 3.5 hfm, port+polished head, chip, electric fan, 5spd with 3.38 diff, lightweight flywheel.

i might suck at driving, but i don't feel like my car is really all that fast.
i tried playing around with some cars, and can't really feel a big advantage over them.
met a civic SI, you know one of those hatchback ones.
i can pass him alright, but not without an effort. maybe he has the type R engine. dunno.

met a MK IV golf, dunno if its turbo or vr6 or 2.0 or tdi. again, i passed him, but had to push it kinda hard.

met a E46 325ic on the highway. was having some trouble catching up with him. wasn't really pushing it. i'm sure i can pass him if i really try. but it felt like the 325 was actualy really fast. and he even had 19" or 20" rims on.

i just don't feel like my car has ANY power under 4k rpm.
do i have a weak engine or what?

and i know that the vanos doesn't kick in until 4k rpm

if your thread doesnt contain a race or is speculative ... it will b locked. just race him and FIND OUT. no shame in losing to a worthy opponent.

well, they WERE races. and I won.
just wasn't satisfied by the lead.

Watch some incar race videos and learn how/when to shift.

with the 3.38 diff you aren't gonna pull as hard up top as a stock M3. but that is ok cause you will have better acceleration! shift is key i think especially from a dig. practice anytime you get the chance and don't be timid with it, but don't hurt your car either. practice makes perfect

well if you feel bad cause you arnt killing cars by like 5 cars off the line or like 10 cars on a 60-100 sprint. its because most cars dont unless you have crazy power like 400+whp.

No, he'll pull harder everywhere....he'll just have a lower top speed than a car with a regular 3.23 or 3.15 rear.

well i dont have any power til 4k rpm either, but i cant imagine it would be slow with those mods. You are prob looking at like a 13.3- 13.5 second car. It would take some serious honda to keep up

have you dynoed your car? that would be a good way to see how strong your motor is or go race a friend so you know what the other car has. with hondas you never know if it rice or rocket. or bring it to the track and finf out your trap speed.

You sound like you're not pushing your car. What do you mean by "you had to push it kinda hard?" If you're shifting low it's going to hurt your time like hell. You already know your power is up top so let it rev high and use all the power you can. If you're going to race somebody, by all means, GO!

Hmmmmmmm.......this is honestly one of the oddest threads I've seen.

The guy says he has trouble passing the car, but doesn't push it hard, but sorta kind of pushed it hard, but not really and slowly passed the car, and he won but the other car seemed fast, when he only kind of got on his car, and he isn't sure if his car is fast. :confused

Honestly, did you put all these mods in yourself? Do you just buy stuff because it sounds cool? The e36 m3 is not a super car. You will not be able to smoke any car on the road, just by shifting into 2nd. if the other car on teh highway is pressing their go pedal AT ALL. You will need to depress your pedal on the right all teh way down, to be able to pass them with a sense of urgency.
