I am a fan of the french headlights on a 320i, they just look good. I want to get rid of the sealed beams and replace them with some really bright lights. My question is, would these work?

I really have no idea about headlights.

They will work but can not be used as driving lights. You can use them as fog lights or high beam lights though.

If you want period correct (flat lense with Euro pattern these are the best). I have a full set for the E24 and E-Code high beams on the E21.

Those wagner lights are horrible lighting quality.

I wanted to get the Hella, but my dad did not want me to spend that much on headlights.

thanks CJ, I figured they'd be high beams, which is fine. I like the thought of having ubar bright lights, I prefer to drive on backroads. :redspot

P.S. which lights are the high beams? can't check in my current situation.

it wouldn't be too hard to wire up those lights, would it?

Don't forget to check your local laws before swapping headlights for something obviously different, since it could get in the way of inspection (if that applies to you).

Florida has no inspections. Besides, ricers have those annoying ass headlights that they always leave on bright, noone stops them.

the same web site CJ posted has a sexction on wiring the headlights, even if you want to light them independently instead of the 4 at a time during high beam use....

The two lights toward the center are the high beams.

Jake,

Depending on the condition of your car this is what it would look like.

It wont look quite as nice as that. Those frenchies are Hella I believe, the one you are looking at on ebay are Bosch, I like the Hella's much better.

I bought a pair of the sealed beam hi-beams for cheap just to see what they would look like (on my VW Dasher). I agree the light output sucks compared to H1s. With the H4 outers it isn't too bad, but just for looks I wouldn't do it again.

these would just be for a little while, not a permanent thing. I want to get a full set of the Hellas like the site CJ showed me sold, clear lenses with yellow bulbs.

I have seen a fly yellow e21 323i with these yellow lights,

and it does not do it for me on this car, or any other car.

I dont like them. But if you like them more power to you bro.

have you ever thought of simply putting yellow lamin-x over the high beams? I did it to my dad's alfa gtv, and it looks very sharp. My own 2002 has clear lights with Hella yellowstar h4 110/85w bulbs, and it looks pretty sharp. If I were you I would simply save up a few bucks and buy the h1 high beams and put some yellow or clear lamin-x over them... just my 2 cents.

I have a set of yellows on my e21. I really like them, but i'm not sure if they will pass inspection here in TX.

I have been stripping down the car to cash in on some of the rarer items, but I'm holding off on the headlights for now. It's a strange mutly car. 320i small six. Dogleg 5 speed.... It had triple weber carbs on it, but I sold them off... I'm not sure what direction I'm going yet on it, but I definately am not going restored.... Lightweight, good power, handling, and braking are in the plan....

We'll see how it evolves.... :)

I was just joking. I already ordered some E code conversion lamps. H4 low beams w/ city lights and H1 highs beams. Im going to use yellow Lamin-X over the high beams and see how that looks. Im trying the Hella High Performance H4 Bulbs and also trying some of the Yellowstars. Anything is better than these sealed beams.

Besides the Alpina and the flared e21, I also have 2 baurs... one with a 3.5l stuffed in it only 20000 miles on the clock. pretty cool. they both are in need of some heavy TLC. They are in various states of disassembly or engine transplant. I'm kinda torn in a few different directions right now.:eyecrazy

also have a 32 ford pickup in progress, and a 68 BSA chopper.

what a mess!!
