I know about the 77 vented rotors and Volvo Turbo 4 piston Girlings.

However, I was wondering if there is a larger bolt-on rotor that is available?

Also, I was wondering about the 4 piston calipers for BMW 2002's - I haven't seen anything about those being used? Is it because they can't fit vented rotors inside the caliper spread?

I would be glad to use the Volvos with a slightly larger dia rotor so I wouldn't have to grind the mounting holes so much and benefit from that larger rotor.

Anyone know of any other brake rotors that use the same offset hat as the E21? VW air-cooled rotors use a large offset as well, but I am not sure if it is close. Also, internally vented VW rotors are rare & expensive, and hard to get as blanks (no lug holes).

The BMW I am picking up (whoo hoo - finally) has been sitting with a couple open brake hoses and no MC so I plan on rebuilding the brake system completely, and might as well upgrade if I am spending the money.

Thanks for any help.

Here is a pick in all her glory.

Hi!

Don't forget to upgrade your brake servo as well. Fitting a larger servo would help a lot towards improving your brakes. Improves the braking with standard e21 323i calipers and would simply be awesome with 4pot calipers.

IMHO, I don't think you will need to go for anything bigger than the Girlings. It has more than enough braking power to lock the fronts without too much pressure on the pedal.

Girlings combined with the bigger servo, the feel and progessiveness of the braking is great.

U might also want to change the rears to disc. I believe u will need 323i trailing arms. Instead of the e21 rear calipers, u can also use e30 rear calipers.

You will have to find someone to custom make a 2 piece 269-270mm (or 10.625") rotor.

I have heard that a guy on the e21 email digest has the diagrams for two piece rotors made by coleman racing.

Also I know that both Wildwood and Brembros will fit in the front.
Since 80 percent of the stoping action occurs here, this is really where you need to look primarily for a brake upgrade.

For cars that are not tracked but street driven, the girling update is fine for the front with the 323/325i swap in the back for rear disk brakes.

thanks
