View Full Version : 10/31 and 11/11 at thunderhill
mooty 10-06-2005, 01:48 PM www.unlimitedlaps.com has the above dates at thunderhill raceway. i think they are cheaper than other groups and there is a discount if you do both days.
i plan to be there both days, hope to see some of you out there.

jayhudson 10-06-2005, 04:03 PM I'll be there too.
John, which car?
Jay
mooty 10-06-2005, 06:48 PM i hope the m3.
i took it out last weekend, it was fun day one. then day two, the gear box acted strange. of course, on my way home, it was NORMAL again... ugh.

Bad weekend for Bimmers at Thunderhill. First Fong's engine problems, then I mis-shift and then your gearbox problems. Not as bad as the Viper, though.
mooty 10-06-2005, 07:25 PM indeed, the viper blew the motor i think
fong's car had a value "stuck"....
are you getting your fixed at ramon's?
he and tony is trying to exorcise the demon in my "bad karma" car.
i am beginning to question the reliability of e36m3 ;-)
i tracked (3) different 996's, none of them had a single problem and i NEVER had to leave early ;-(

Ramon will be getting the car either this Sunday or Monday.
How heavily used was your car when you bought it? My car owes me nothing. 95 track days and the only problems have been when I f**cked up.
jayhudson 10-07-2005, 08:55 AM For any who haven't run with UnlimitedLaps, this is a great group to run with. Lots of BMW participation and a wide variety of cars. The events are well run, they have a great lunch and have good instructors. I'll be instructing and I believe Mooty will also. There are a number of Bf.c members who are regulars at Hunpin's events.
You'll get lots of track time and the run groups aren't huge. The price is very good. $225 if paid before deadline date. If you sign up for both 10/31 and 11/11, it's only $195/day. That's an awesome deal for T-hill.

Hope to see you out there.

mooty 10-07-2005, 10:42 AM i second what jay said about unlimited laps. i run everyone of their events ;-)

john, the car is a 1998 ONE owner car (mature lady). only had 61k miles on it when i got it. it was never tracked before me. now i got 11DE and maybe 1500 track miles on it.

Ha-Ha1 Only driven by a little old lady! The used car salesmans standard line.
mooty 10-07-2005, 08:18 PM nah, i met the previous owner and stalked her for a while to make sure she was the only driver ;-)
oh, she wan't old either !

Ha-Ha! YOU WOULD do THAT!
jayhudson 10-12-2005, 06:14 PM BTW, for those of you who haven't run T-hill in a while they've made some very nice improvements to the track.
Added asphalt to the outside of T8 at track out. Now you can see how big your nuts are (I was referring to lug nuts of course). Added a lot of asphalt to the inside of T12 so if you spin out of T11 there's plenty of track instead of gravel. Added a lot of asphalt to the outside of the area between T14 and T15. And added a pit entrance lane starting before T15.
It just keeps getting better.
Hope to see some of you out there - Jay

Of course :)
But now it's so easy. I spent 6 years trying to go through that corner "un-puckered" , and now they add asphalt?
Pffft, might as well just put big fluffy pillows out there :thumbdown :)
Ah well. IMO, yada^3

Are you planning on running in the green group (novice)?? Im definitely considering participating in this now that my new suspension is finished. Gonna be the first track day my car has ever seen.
What happens if it rains that day??????

Bring your slickers ;-) We'll run rain or shine. Of course, if it's a downpour that'll probably change things.
Jay
Dinanify 10-22-2005, 06:44 PM Yeah, tentatively (novice), since this is my first event in over a year, and my first event with this car setup now..., I may ask if they'll let me switch over to the intermediate group at some point in the day, depending on how the day goes...
Fongster 10-22-2005, 08:04 PM Looks like its going to be an awesome day
We should be by the new shelter Thill has, if there is a sign of rain, will get a garage aka "smack tent"
:)
danp412 10-23-2005, 12:38 PM So lets say it does rain (not heavily) the day of the event. Doesnt everyones traction (the people that donty have Pilot Sport's) go down the poop hole?? I mean, my car in the rain feel like its going to spin out more easily than anything else I've ever driven. Wouldnt that totally defeat the purpose of testing your cars limits on a race track?
jayhudson 10-23-2005, 07:53 PM Many races are run in the rain. This is not a race, but you can learn from driving in less than ideal conditions. Some say you learn a lot more because you really have to be in touch with what's going on.
Jay
danp412 10-23-2005, 10:18 PM Sounds like this will be an awesome day. How many people usually attend?
mooty 10-23-2005, 11:39 PM i venture to guess 50-60 car spread among 3 run groups. track is usually not crowded.
Phantom 10-24-2005, 01:05 PM . . . but you can learn from driving in less than ideal conditions. Some say you learn a lot more because you really have to be in touch with what's going on.

Wet trackdays are great. They equalize the horsepower factor and emphasize driver skill and smoothness.
I've been hoping to get a wet trackday for a long time, now, but no luck since 2003.

Not going to be too busy it would seem (which I have NO Problems with), although if Hunpin isn't getting many people, I hope he can continue to offer these events.
jayhudson 11-04-2005, 07:16 PM Maybe he'll get some last minute sign-ups. I talked to a friend in WA who might come down.
I'm looking forward to it. My last events of the season. I'll also be doing 3 days at Sears Point 11/13-11/15.
You got that blue car ready to fly?
Jay
Dinanify 11-04-2005, 07:34 PM I think so. There are some last minute things I need to do
-install roll-cage padding (already have the padding)
-bleed the brakes
..and some I'm going to do because I want to
-JTDesigns tranny brace
But other than that, HELL Yes :) hehe. I'm SO ready to get this car out there and drive. Should be a good time. I signed up in the green group, mainly because I haven't brought this car out before, and a lot has changed. I want to give myself time to get used to it.
I'm getting excited.
