I am removing the heater core and components from my E36. I wanted to get a little help in understanding which coolant lines to block and or connect of the three that go into the firewall. For purposes of discussion, let's refer to the three hoses as you look at them from the engine compartment, and go from left to right with 1,2,3.
Thanks in advance for the help.

Search the track forum...the question has been asked a few times. You should be able to find the answer pretty easily.

I did a search of heater bypass and found some information on the E30 but nothing that was very clear on the E36.

I'll keep looking.

Remove the hose going to the heater control valve (and remove the valve as well). Loop the other 2 hoses.

Blocking off the lines forces all coolant thru the radiator while a loop will allow some hot coolant to re-circulate. If you drive in very hot conditions you will notice a difference. M

This is the first time anyone has actually explained 1 method over the other (loop vs plug) ... thanks! In my case, being in Canada, I see 220º and never higher (once I fixed all the other issues :rolleyes ) so I should be good.

On the euro motors at least, I think 18m freeze plugs are just right. Surprising how helpful these little peckers are.
