This happend a few weeks back...just been too lazy to post it up.
I was back home and driving down one of the main roads. I saw a black B5 S4 sitting at a light, he pulled out of the light to follow me. Once we got a little farther ahead we both took a left from a stop sign, I punched up and he kept right up with me and I head a bov/diverter valve. It was then I knew it wasn't stock. I had him pull over and we chatted for a bit. His car 2001 S4 6 speed: Revo Tecknic chip, some kind of CAI (not a pannel filter), removal of mid-cats and replaced with straight pipes, diverter valve, ssk. We decided first to go from a 40 roll.

1st race: 40 roll 2nd gear- door to door up to 100ish when we let off.
2nd roll: 3rd gear 60-70ish roll up to 140- He slowly pulls just under 1/2 a car.
3rd roll: 3rd gear 75 roll up to 135- He pulls 1/4 of a car.

He was a very good driver, so I was expecting to get my ass handed to me. I know just a chipped S4 makes in the range of 320hp. Not to mention all this mods. He estimated around the 340-350 crank hp range. He had a 1/4 tank of gas, so did I. Neither of us had passengers. Good races overall. Anyone else had any experiences with chiped S4's? I know they are SUPPOSTO be faster than bolt-on E36 M3's, so please don't preach to me about getting my butt handed to me.

Is your M3 stock?

On paper, he should've won by more. I pulled harder than that on a 98 M3 with my chip and stock DPs. Could be a boost leak, could be he lied, could be bad software, could be a bad driver. Anything can happen on the street.

Then again, if his car is running right, and you managed to keep up, then...that's very impressive :D

pretty much what Vandy said. I haven't raced an S4, but from what all I've heard, and read, he should've definately had you by alot more. I believe it is supposed to be a drivers race stock for stock, since he had all that, yeck, good race :thumbup:

you must be a VERY good driver, if some other guy with a close to stock e36 m3 posted this i would laugh at him but it seems that your purple people eater just runns really strong and i saw that video of you racing the 300+whp cobra. So good race man.

S4's are mean cars...from a dig. Up top the awd kills them. From a stop is when you would notice it because he would launch cl's in front with an awd launch, and his boost would have been more apparent as well. Nice run none the less.

Stock for stock the m has a bit of an edge, but this modded b5 should have put some car lengths on you. Good job on your part, and your car's to keep up though.

My bad on the errant "w" while quoting hp for the S. He should have close to 300 at crank...................

NP man. He probally put down 250whp-270whp. But it's over 300 to the crank. APR is very conservative with their tunning, and a apr chip puts the B5 S4 at about 310 crank (60hp) Revo get about 75hp with their chip. I'm getting ready to buy an 2002 B5 S4 it looks like. :devillook If I can give up my baby.

assuming he actually has the mds he says he does

he SHOULD be around 280whp and 310-330 wtrq. Chip, intake, and turbo back exhaust in a 6spd should be able to beat E46 M3's quiet easily if the driver can drive. So I'm guessing either you're faster than an e46 m3 OR he didn't know how to drive.

nah def not, they are pigs as far as weight goes. If the drivr hesitated at all I could see this happening. I drove one with close to the same mods and I wasnt impressed. My workout partner has one to with the same mods also.

I was thinking crank hp, my bad, and so i factored in the extra drivetrain loss, given that the awd launch advantage is lost from a roll.

this is news to me and I owned an s4 with aftermarket valves, the s4 uses a bypass valve that does not vent into the atmosphere, when I owned the car there were several failed attempts to change the bypass to a blow off, there is a major difference in programing the computer that needs to be done for a sound effect.

Is it possible yes is it probable no.

I too miss my rx7 and the ubsurdly loud Greddy BOV it had, not to mention the acceleration, still would kick my modded m5 ass to well north of 100 mph.
