After having my H&R sports for 3 years worth of track schools, I find myself in need of more suspension. I made the jump to R-comps and being signed off in group 2. Being a poor college student, I will find it very difficult to come up with the dough needed for coilovers. New springs and some sways are within my budget for this winter, so thats what its going to be. The bilstiens I have on the car have some life left in them, so I really dont see a need to replace them. I looked into the off the shelf H&R race, but they seem too low for their rate and not really what I want. H&R also makes what are called "ID race springs" which are available in many lengths and rates. I want something in the 500-600 lb rate range, and with more lowering than the H&R sports, but not as low as the race. Question is this: will the 2.5" ID race springs work on my car, and what lengths do I need to achieve my desired ride height?
Would a 6" rear and 8" front spring be what I need?
Any help would be awesome

ID race springs would require you to go to a coilover setup, as they require the proper sized spring seats.
What are the indicators that you are at the limits of your current suspension?

You can do the rears easy enough. GC sells the rear ride height adjusters for $100/set. They allow the use of 2.5" springs that come in many rates.
Used springs are pretty easy to find. I think I have a set of 6" 500lb available.
The fronts may present a problem. 2.5" springs won't fly without coilovers. Finding a oem style spring in the right rate and height could be difficult.

In the end, the spring rates you'll need to use in the 2.5" springs will likely be too much for your off the shelf dampers anyway.

thanks for the input. This was my other option: http://www.turnermotorsport.com/html/detail.asp?PRODUCT_ID=E36TMSISTOCK
any thoughts on running this setup? granted id need to sell off my shocks/springs to afford it though. Or if this is not the right route, please guide me where I need to go. Are used coilovers even worth looking for?

Kolin,
I think Russ Wiles might still have the old setup from his lightweight for sale. I need to give him a call tonight to talk about upcoming events, so I will ask. That might work out OK.
