View Full Version : random crap before I start driving my e21...

Basically, I need to know the basic stuff for my 320i. Engine hasn't run in at least 2 years, so what kind of stuff should I consider replacing, what kind of fluids do I need to run, other stuff like that. I'm getting a shifter improver kit from BavAuto because my shifter is sloppy.
Also, there are 2 e30s out in a junkyard near me, I didn't look at them much but would the seats be worth the effort to get? I don't want to spend alot of money on my car YET, so Recaros are out of the question for now.
TIA,
Jake

Just check to make sure all your fluids are in good shape. Change your oil, make sure you use 20W50. Then start it up.

First check all of your hoses/belts/brake lines. Then change all of your fluids and check them again for leakage. Apparently e30 seats require lots of mods to mount in your e21. JJGBMW323i has a set to sell, but has explained that it's not exactly easy to do. I'd pass on them, as long as the present seats will give you a place to put your backside and allow you to use a seatbelt.

they are the so called 'comfort' seats which are not comfortable at all, and they are ripped all up. Go seat covers!

New fuel filter is a good idea. Redline MTL in the trans and rear end. Check your cooling system for corrosion and dried out hoses-new coolant. Be sure your brake calipers and wheel cylinders don't leak and function properly-sometimes they seize up when not used.

Vacuum the interior. I hate spiders like no other. I once hopped in the E24 after it sat for a few months and I nearly ran into a wall when this HUGE ass spider landed on my nose, scared the living shit out of me.

F**kin spiders:shifty

This is what it looked like and the size, I kid you not.

change all your fluids, and drain the fuel tank!!
any fuel would have gone bad by now, so drain the tank and fill her up with the best fuel you can get. stay away from fuel cleaner addatives untill you can afford to fix the leaks it will proabably cause.

check all your hoses, flush your coolant, change your thermostat, fresh oil and filter.
CHECK YOUR FUEL LINES FROM FRONT TO BACK, dont want a fire now do we :D

Check your clutch plate assembly. Mine broke after six months immobile at the workshop.

Get either some E30 bucket seats (if at the junkyard) or get some eBay E30 knock off racing seats. They're like 200 w/ shipping or something. Like these...

They would do the job.

Plus, as everyone else has said already.. to sum it up... Replace all fluids w/ the best...

Also, if the car runs poorly, check the vacuum hoses for leaks.

Transmission and Differential lube change
Flush brake fluid and bleed brakes and clutch slave cylinder
Do a valve adjustment
Fresh gas is a must
