Had the dealer do the 1200 mile service at 1090 miles, and now i have 7580 on the car. I took at look at the oil and it's a dark caramel color. I am putting it away in december and not touching it until march, but i am a little concerned at the color, and think i should change it. Service indicator says 6k until oil change, so i know i have been driving the car hard. I figure changing it (i know it will be on my dime since bmw only covers sceduled shit) before i put it away is a good move. Am i being anal? :)

Don't know if this helps but I just hit 6000 and the indicator is showing
an oil change in 6600 miles. I had my 1200 service done at the dealer at 3500K. But I don't think I've driven it hard at all.

Damn, maybe I should take a look at my oil. Looked fine last time...

change it out yourself

Its $100 to change it, worth the peice of mind.

as noted earlier, many of us change our oil at 7.5k anyway just to be safe.
pick up an oil extracter and you can do it your self in a few minutes at home.

My car normally asks for oil changes every 8-9k anyway... change it out if you are going to be putting the car away, otherwise... it's probably a waste.
