View Full Version : Was I even racing?

Earlier this evening around 8:00 I was driving rather spirited towards Irvine so I could begin swapping my rear bumper for Dan's m-tech bumper and eisenmann exhaust. I was naturally running late and tried to make up for my late start by a little "aggressive driving." I had dsc off from the start and was accelerating fairly hard out of every stop.

I take a right off of macarthur onto some side road that cuts over to barranca and find myself stuck next to a 300c at a left turn light. The light turns green and I gun it like I have been all evening. I immediately have to brake for a stop sign and come to a complete stop to let some econobox slowly make a right turn directly in front of me. I notice the 300c still next to me and think nothing of him. My windows are up and my musics up pretty loud and I am only focussing on the slow turning car obstructing my path :mad

Finally, the guy comppletes his turn and I take off briskly. I run it to about 4500 or 5k in 1st and shift to second. No wheel spin or chirp just a nice clean shift. I run through 2nd and 3rd going about 80% throttle. I top out at around 70 or 80 and begin to brake for a red light up ahead when I notice this 300c going wot right at my rear bumper :eyecrazy This guy slows down too to make his turn and just gives me this stare as if to say, "I should have had you" :rofl It takes me a second to realize that this guy just raced me and then I burst out laughing.

lol, nice kill......I think :stickoutt

I used to love the 300c when I saw it in a mag, but now that every single middle age average guy owns one, I hate them. Pretty mutch like every other Chrysler out there.

nice job.

I hate to generalize, but everyone that drives those things are so cocky about their cars. There's a guy that lives down the street from me with one, always driving fast through the street, even with kids playing in the street. Another guy at Shoreline in HB had some rims put on, went for a test ride, and came back saying how EVERYONE was stopping to check out his rims. please... mid life crisis at its finest.

Agreed. I feel like pulling up to one of those cocky, on the throttle all the time because they think they just bought a viper types, roll down the window and say, congratulations, how does it feel to be on the bandwagon?

now that I think about it more, its really the ones with the chromed "dubs" that bother me. total mid life crisis. I hope Im not like that when it hits me, if it does though, I will NOT be buying a car like that. Once my kids are grown and gone, it will be back to a 2 door and P car time for me.

They're respectable cars. Decent performance for a Chrysler/Mercedes Sedan, especially considering the price. You can get one loaded for 25-30k. They're not a sports car, unless you found something with an SRT-8....

Anyway, I finally got to cruise one last night, and the ride is comfortable, it's roomy (saw 7 people get out of this one :eyecrazy ), and it feels stable and quick for its weight.

That's just my 3 cents, and I know that I'm no expert, but I've got to say they're nice cars... until someone DUBs them. teh ghey.

I saw a dubbed out one last night behind me with ghetto thugs in it. Downtown SD was the location. I wasn't too surprised.

I saw three last night.

One was an average v-6, one was owned by a guy generally considered an arse, was a v-6 with a couple subs rattling aw in the trunk, on some 20" chromed rims. Twas silver with black tint. It looked cheap and sounded nasty with bass rattles.

Then the lasdy brought in her 300C, and it sounded nice, the interior was flawless after about 18k miles, the drive was smooth, the accelerator felt strong. The quality difference is typical of American cars, with the large gap in quality between the base and luxury models.

Sure, this difference is apparent in some other cars, but it seems to be accented more with the Mustangs and 300Cs.

I see that you have a 1994 Jeep Cherokee Sport, 1985 Celica ST (sold), I hope you have ridden in a bimmer, and your comparison of how respectable the 300c is, is based on a relative comparasion to the bimmer, and not your Cherokee or Celica...

Frankly, I think the are a fine piece of turd. I got into one during the auto show and was so turned off by the cheap interior.

i've seen a couple out by me on long island, its a shame. Wheels like that ruin a car, i'm yet to see one with spinners though, that will be the ultimate laugher.

come out to cali, theyre everywhere, and they look horrible as you would imagine. yeah i agree with most everyone, everyone who rolls up with that hemi badge on their door thinks they can now rule the world, it gets old fast.

Personaly, im glad chrysler pumps out half a billion of these 300's a year, and people bling and spin the hell out of them.

Just makes us BMW owners look even more unique.

Ive been in many cars, high to low end, and nothing even comes close to BMW (Merc is pretty close), especially my 540i.

I agree though, guys who drive those cars are so cocky and I hate it.

i've had "races" like that once or twice. I like how it was a Hemi guy though. I do hate them marketing that. There is a black magnum on Ft. Belvoir, with huge, 20" at the smallest chrome rims. Luckily no spinners. I have to say with it solid black and limo tint, it doesn't look horrible, but it definately isn't my preference.

Nice Kill!

I have not been impressed with those hemi cars yet. I have test driven the Charger, and raced the Charger, 300C and Magnum, all with me never even making into 4th....

As allready stated, the SRT8's are the ones I am looking for on the road.

the hemis arent even that fast, i mean yeh they are fast, but i wouldnt wanna run up against a 540 in one, or worse an older m5. I don't really know much about the cars cuz i don't really care about them, does anyone know what that hemi pushes out?

They really are not bad looking cars, but they are so over done, and there's so many out there, that you get sick of them fast.

yeah, those SRT8's, I just read about them in a magazine. Low to mid 13's, 0-60 in like 4.9.

I can't wait till someone gets over confident, and we see a kill story e46 M3 vs. Chrysler 300c. That'll be beautiful. Then maybe that'll finally set people straight that the hemi isnt this great thing that everyone thinks it is, especially under the hood of a giant sedan. On a funnier note, i saw a pt cruiser in the student parking lot the other day that had the hemi badge on it lmao. What makes it even worse, it was crooked, if ur gonna fake the hemi, at least make the badge straight.

okay, first half of your statement. The outcome wouldn't be much different than the e39 540.

:lol Also, the pt cruiser thing made me laugh. My mom just got an 05 PT Cruiser. My dad got the crazy idea to mess around and get the Hemi badge. The salesman got them one Hemi badge. So my dad mounted it on the back. he did it just as a joke. They didn't even buy the Turbo version of the cruiser. He just thought it would be funny to have that on there. :D
