So secrets out i have a 745 turbo kit on the way too me, so i decided to get some kind of baseline before she gets boosted. As for motor she only has a eat chip and triflow catbcak . Oh ya no air filter :stickoutt . Anyways i guessed it at around 170rwhp. :( only laid down 150rwhp and 167rwtq :help Thank god the turbo is on the way. Now i'm concerned that my motor isn't running as well as it should be. Anybody else get shitty #'s like this.

Side note the dyno operator has a civic b16 vortech supercharger and my old laddy made more torque than that :D

Also his book had the 535 weighing 4200pounds??? is this right.

Isn't the hp for that car supposed to be like 215?

Couple of things: Expect 15%-20% driveline losses (10% is a pipe dream most of the time). Also, how long since a tuneup and/or valve and injector cleaning? That can make a big difference.

When is valve and injector cleaning done? How can I get some of my lost horses back with out spending a ton of $$?

I don't think a 535i should weigh that much, but I'm not 100% sure about a 90. I think my '86 is only something 3100 pounds.

Think the E34 540 is around 3800. The 535 has to be a little less.

maybe your is... rear seats removed, no spare tire: 3403 lbs

You should only weigh about 3200-3350 -- just a little more than the e28s. Also, those numbers are fine since you're talking about power at the wheels, not the crank.

Those numbers do seem very incorrect though... one guy had his b34m30 dynoed and had 162rwhp 185rwtq - your b35m30 engine should read at least 5-10 numbers greater than that.

Here is the pic... didn't have it on the home computer last night. I should be able to lose about another 100lbs when I go to aftermarket seats... I wish there was a carbon fiber hood/rear decklid available...

There is a carbon fiber hood available. I'll post some pics of mine installed. Stock hood weighed 45lbs cf hood weighs 22lbs

not for wide grilles... at least from what my research has shown.

Why should a 535 weigh less than a 540???

540s have aluminum blocks and the 535 has a cast block. They are VERY close to the same weight although the v8 is much bigger.

The 535 is indeed a very heavy car, but I don't have exact figures.

I think the difference is in the engine; the eight cylinder should weigh more than the six.

the 8 is actually lighter.

My bad. Because it's aluminum? Also...how'd you take out the backseats and why did you take out the spare tire? Might come in handy sometime...

I take it out just to shave a little weight when I autocross and track the car. Removal of the rear seats is very easy. To remove the lower portion just pull up with a decent amount of force on the front of the seat in two different places. These two places can be described as: if you were to have two passengers sitting in the back directly behind the driver and passenger seat you would apply the pressure between their legs. To remove the back portion there are 4 screws that have to be removed... two by the doors and two in the middle... pull down the armrest to access the two in the middle. Then you need to pull the tab on the center female part of the seatbelt and slide it out of the seatback. From there just lift and pull it out...

and yes because it's aluminum. I don't know the weight of the m20/m30 but I do know a guy doing an m62 into an e36 m3 weighed the v8 and it was about 70 lbs (iirc) lighter than the s50/52 it was replacing.

wow there is so much CRAP floating around this board it is pathetic...
do ANY of you have your bmw manuals?

bmw 535 from a 91 manual = 1620kg
when i looked at teh lbs rating i saw 2572lbs which i was like DAMN!
heheh but then i realized the typo and converted teh kg to lbs myself

soooo

91 535i 5spd = ready for road full tank, 3571lbs
91 M5 = 3803lbs

also, factory claims 208 crank hp and 225lb-ft

208 * 15% = 31.2
208 - (15% drivetrainloss) = 176ish
minus a few hp for older motor, poor tune etc
160-170hp at the rear wheels is accurate
and i have 2 or 3 dyno graphs to prove it
i'll be testing my own car soon enough

what did your afr look like?
what is your compression?
have u done a leakdown tesT?

good luck with the 745 turbo =\

martin, first of all, dont go around criticizing anyone here since you ask some of the most basic questions i have ever heard over and over again. second, the e34 535i is rated at 211 crank hp from the factory. and bmw's do not have "poor tunes." they invest over $1 million dollars to pay a group of engineers to tune the ecu's so well that the car will run perfectly in an weather condition and they also encrypt and build in fail safe's so that after market tuners can't break the codes. if their tuning was so bad, there would be a lot more e46 turbo's running around, but they can't break the code so in my mind they are not crappy tunes. just my 2 cents.
