Wow, not to pour salt in a wound that’s a lot of damage……

Roof skin & possible roof cartridge
Two doors, left rear quarter, wing, hood some glass panels, rocker panel, rear light, misc. trim, a pillar etc.

This is probably a better parts car than a fixer….. You might consider parting her out to make more $$$ our of it…..

Good Luck,

-Eli

Well yes there is damage but solution is very simple. Find an e36 body and just swap all the parts over and you have a good M3.. That was my plan from the begining.

Well figure you have to spend about 3K on a salvaged body only "assuming that you got it as a stripped down insurance job". With the purchase of your car we are up to lets say 8K now. Figuring the time and effort involved in the drive train and misc. parts swapping & there will be a lot here. I would factor in at least 2-3K in labor time not to mention the head if it needs a gasket. So now we're up to a 11K for a salvaged car at best. . . It might be easier to find a salvaged car that someone took the time to deal with already.

Sorry to add up the details......

Considering I would venture that you would be able to spring this thing for parts vs. as a rebuilder.

Like I said before "good luck",

Those cars have high milage though.. 99 m3 with 30k books at $25000

catalyst.

Not when its been flipped, man.

That cars only good for making a 332 or something, dont expect to get more than 5-8 grand. And that is only if the engine/interior/tranny are all in tip top shape.

bimeralex

someone already bid at 4500 and there is 6 days left.
Why only make a 332 ?
I talked to other people about switching the vin numbers and most body shop places told me that it should not be a problem since im using all of the parts from an M3 and only a shell from e36. So it will stay a 1999 m3 even if you do swap everythin into another shell.

OK let's try this since you think that you're giving the rest of our board memebers a deal: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/99-M3-CONVERTIBLE-AUTO-CD-CHANGER-CLEAN-NO-RESERVE_W0QQitemZ4575226840QQcategoryZ6131QQrdZ1QQ cmdZViewItem

Here we have a 1999 M3 Convertable with 69K miles (NO OVER HEATING ISSUES OR REASONS TO EXPECT HEAD DAMAGE).

This vehicle has a clean title and requires no work to be done which can calculate to endless hours searching, waiting for items or other issues which might come up during the engine, trans, wire harness, pillar panels, door panels, mirrors, scared up plastic interior trim, new rubber for windows maybe some mold that found it's way in there from all the down time. The body work is something I didn't even throw in there the last time just because I figured you needed some blank spaces but hey lets throw that into the mix....

I would say to quit while you are ahead here. I sell parts all day long and know all the little items that get overlooked on salvaged cars, relays, air bag sensors, bent arms, crushed brake lines, sliced wire harness, internal engine issues, glass, misc. damaged door, roof, bent seat frames, new seat belts, A & B pillar panels. OH yah did I mention LABOR LABOR LABOR..... I'm also assuming that this thing will need to be towed to where ever it needs to go. Transport services charge around $500 extra for non-driving cars since they can't easily remove & load them or move them out of the way.

I don't mean to sound like I'm beating you up here but I'd rather you sold this thing to non-board members so they don't get a bad taste from dealing with this hardship.

But I said it before and I'll say it again "Good Luck",

That car has double the miles and it is an AUTOMATIC.. WHo the heck wants an AUTOMATIC M3?? Not many people thats for sure..
ANd what are you talking about the wiring problems.. Car runs and drives. All I would do is swap everything into another body thats all. No body work should be invloved.

I'd buy the rear (8.5) DSIIs if you were to sell them. PM me if you do.

I agree with Eli, you'll make much more money out of it as a parts car. It'll take some time and effort, but done right you'll probably make a good deal or more than what you spent on it.

That said, if you do decide to part it out, I am interested in the steering wheel and airbag. I have cash in hand.

Whoa.

I thought I replied in this last night. Me and Bill on here cut up E36 M3s, I saw the topic thought "I want that car" and didn't pursue it for 2 reasons. a) It's in SD, b) Its not worth that to me.

Right now you are getting a darn good price for that car in my experience and opinion. First off, it's not repairable, it needs a new shell, and that poses a problem. You CANNOT pass that off as a 30k mile car anymore, the 30k mile car is dead. That car probably needs about $30,000 in bodywork, and oh boy yes does it have frame damage. If it WAS repaired, you'd have maybe a $12-13k car when it was fixed as it would have a branded title.

I also think you could maybe get $23-25k for a 99 M3 with 30k on it, assuming that it was a pristine car with no paintwork, no stories, clean title history, etc... That will never be the case with this car.

Also, that engine scares me, at a minimum, to do it right, you have $1,000 in machine work and parts assuming you do all the work yourself. If I were to sell the engine out of that car I'd fix it properly. We're also assuming that the rest of the engine is totally OK after overheating, that's not always the case by a long shot.

I think that if the interior is totally mint (Blown out windows.. how mch water damage??) you might get $2,500 out of the interior, $1,500 for tranny swap, $450ish for diff, $800-1k out of suspension and brakes... Maybe $1,500 in other misc parts.

So you might have $6,000 in parts.. maybe $6,500-7k if you get lucky.

In my opinion, this isnt even a great parts car as that engine isnt worth much without doing work to it and even then... it still got hot.

Also, mentioning in the auction that the car has at least a bad head gasket would be the right thing to do.

What type of title does this car have? Not sure about SD but here in NJ that car would have a certificate of destruction tile of aka junk title which would make that car impossible to get back on the road. Be happy with $4500 thats crazy high for that car.

salvage title can be registered in any state as far as I know
