What type of bulb is used in the brake lights? The reason I ask is because the light output is extremely bright, given the small area. Is it a LED? Or just a regular bulb?

Every morning, I see some older Asian woman driving her Z8 to work. Top always stayed on and she never seemed to go over the 40 limit...what a waste.
Those seem to be LED's but I could be wrong because If you look at the plates, they also seem bright due to the flash of the cam so that might have made the rear lights relatively brighter.

Its NEON!! Just like my third brake light on my 330. BMW uses neon gas in all three brake lights on the Z8.

Yes, they are neon brake lights. They look INSANE when following the car, especially at night.

The front corners, and side markers are also neon. Quite a light show at night.

you should bring the z8 down to the meet this weekend:)

I'm in colorado for the next couple weeks otherwise I would. Maybe I'll get it out to a meet over the holidays.

Aston Martin head designer Henrik Fisker put the beautiful Z8 on the map for BMW. I wish they kept him around but than everyone would have to reach deeper into their wallets to own a BMW.

A good family friend of mine has one. He is trading it in 2 months for AM or a 575 (my suggestion on the 575)

He prob. will go with the 5 after he drives it, as I know what he likes and that car just about has exactly what he likes.

Most styling cues were taken from the absolutely stunning BMW 507 of the late 50's. Henrik's job was mostly done for him by the time he got to it, that's one hell of an iconic car, the 507, and not hard to steal cues from.

Right, but if you notice, the Alpina is just called the "Alpina," not the Z8 Alpina. So technically, the Z8 only really came with the E39 M5's powerplant. The Alpina version did suffer with the bored and stroked 4.4, it turned a car that is already criticized for being soft (the Z8 is deffinetely a Grand Touring car over an out and out sports car) into something VERY soft.

Still a stunning car though.

those dirty white trash red-neck bastards dont deserve do say anything about our cars, none of them can drive stick because all they want is a slushbox they can mate up to their goddman huge displacement v-8. they couldnt tell you what the "apex" of a turn is, or maybe when your supposed to downshift. for all i care they can take their trucker hats, oxi-contin habits, sister/mom/cousin/daughter/aunt/girlfriend and go back to the shitty trailer deep in the pits of hell where they came from.

i know i sound like a snob, but goddmanit our cars are so nice we deserve to be snobs, screw anyone who hates on us, we'll buy them and sell them into slavery!

You're making this harder then it has to be. Notice I gave you the choice between "you making" OR "your parents making" simply because of the demographics on this forum. There was a VERY good chance that you still live at home or at least COME home for the summers and therefor would still equate your worth with whatever your parents make. Please accept my apology if that's not the case. Honestly.

And I would take exception to that "BMW's are better engineered" comment... I still think one of the most underrated sports cars in the world is the Corvette C5, which has a host of features that make it unique in the automotive world. Aluminum/balsa composite frame, amazing motor (LS6 is just the shit), and a bunch of other neat goodies that make it a FORMIDABLE car. BMW engineering is good and all, but I know a lot of stuff falls off my car. Its a bit overrated, I think, to equate supreme quality with bimmer stuff. I know for a fact BMW cut corners on the E36 model, and a lot of their mechanical reasoning seems backwards at times.

Don't know where I was going with that... ok, write something back real angry.

Amazing car. I still can't believe it sometimes. You understand what I mean when you see it or own one...

the Z8 is definitely an amazing car, but for the money a GT3 or equivalent always seems better

it may seem so, but your not buying a Z8 for the track, your buying it for the street. and id take a Z8 over just about any other roadster out there.

When I attended, there was a father/son there that split the cost of the car and jointly owned it.
