Well I stopped by to see Brad @ Evosport today and he made me a great deal on getting everything done to my car. I have to say I've been in and out of a lot of shops w/ my different cars over the years, and Brad is a great guy to deal with. Very upfront, nice and honest. Even if they hadn't had the best deal around I would have gone there. I will let you guys all know how the car is post mods, but it should be a lot of fun! After looking at all the header options out there for about 3-4 months, these coatd headers from evosport w/ a 5 year warranty are awesome, can't wait to get it on my car.
So I am installing the Evosport Coated headers, 3pc pulleys, software, magnaflow cat-back, and hi-flow cats I got from a friend. I'll be eating dinners on the credit card for a while now.

Maybe. Depends on the state.

Thats questionable if the cats will pass. I will heat them up real good and give it a shot, if not I have some smog connections so no big deal. yes I do have a CAI. K/N 63.

what do you think of your K&N...I have been hearing alot of stories about stalling issues with them.

I do have stalling issues with it, putting in the clutch at 70+ mph, while its not a huge deal to me, I am going to solve it by adding the GC Gizmo to smooth out the air flow to the MAF sensor.

Just over $3000 in parts for about 35rwhp. Better bang for the buck the N/A 4v cobras.

Can't beat it.

not to sound like an ass but i say you'll be lucky if you end up with 10-12 hp. E46 m3's dont take to mods too well. most bimmers dont but e46 m's are hard to eak out any more hp esp. with out FI.

is this coming from someone who has an e46 m3 with mods?:lol

my car is significantly faster than a stock m3 and i dont have FI; i have no idea what youre talking about.

Its probably the water in Baltimore. Read this comment from another thread:

the aa blower blows excuse the pun. you get like 40-50whp and they make the ridculous claims of 440 blistering hp and you end up with like 320 to the wheels.
their claims r outrageous

See what I mean? Maybe we should introduce him to Scott and Jerry?

Speedtechnik got nearly 22 rwhp out of software, a Milltek muffler, and the K&N 69 intake. Skyler is adding pulleys, cats, and headers to the mix. The headers and cats are going to bump up the torque dramatically throughout the rev range, so figure on maybe 40rwhp give or take, with everything he has listed.

E46 M3s are not that mod friendly (bang for the buck) when compared to cars such as Mustangs etc... but there is power to be found. I think 40 rwhp from the mods Skyman is getting done is a bit optomistic, but 10-12 may be a bit on the low side also.

Hopefully he will chime in with before and after dyno runs!

Well, I was just looking through this thread: http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=413476

It appears that Skyman's results were 300rwhp 241rwtq w/ no before dyno run.

Now, I know it is difficult to compare dyno runs done under different conditions on different dynos, however I have read of stock E46 M3s dynoing in the low 280s on Dynojets. I dynoed at 271 rwhp on a Mustang Dyno which generally read lower than Dynojets. I would say he gained somewhere around 20 rwhp and maybe 10-15 ft-lbs of torque. Not bad, but definitely not 35-40 rwhp.

Maybe Skyman will chime in with his impressions. I'd also be interested in install costs.

please do dyno. like i said i wasnt trying to sound like an ass. if i am wrong i am wrong but a have seen a few disappointed hearts when mods have went on the dyno on an e46 m3 before.

although i think a few who responded to me were trying to be an ass... to the thread starter good luck man i hope these mods give you the hp and tq they promise. wasnt trying to crap on your thread bro.

I think that the big difference lies in the transmission. If the car is SMG, I think the ET suffers because of the lack of clutch modulation by the driver. I know that I put the headers, cats, muffler, and intake on my 2002 SMG, and it ended up at 13.8, right where it started.

By comparison, my first real night of runs with my 2005, right after it got out of break in service, resulted in a 13.49. I bet I could shave a few off if I put better tires on and worked on my technique. Oh yeah - I need to get rid of that clutch delay valve. Thanks BMW... :mad

I agree wholeheartedly that with bang for the buck power mod's the most American muscle and some Japanese brands get much, much better gains. The S54 is costly but not without untapped power to be had.... :devillook

I've gotten a presumed 30-40rwhp increase with my bolt-ons. Most S54 MZ3's are in the 265-275rwhp stock. I'm running roughly 310-315rwhp with my power mods.

326rwhp on a Dynojet (machine was running generous that day) 98deg 90% humidity back in August

297rwhp on a Dyna-pack Chassis Dyno (shop tech told me that the his machine consistantly ran up to 10% low) 80deg 50% humidity last weekend.

Based on what I know I averaged them and landed in the low 3teens and I'm happy there....... for now :devillook

the low 3-teens is not a bad place to be at all, especially with the coupe, which :buttrock 's by the way

Thanks man. I'm happy with the numbers for the power mods that I have right now. Perhaps larger throttle bodies, a different airbox, a custom ecu tune and some jet fuel will throw some real nasty numbers down for N/A - which is my goal. :D :evil2
