Here's a good guess. It's either a 5/8 or a 13/16. Those are ther only two spark plug sizes that are used (to the best of my knowledge).

Actually its an 18mm but I cant get that size ratchet down in the sleeve to pull the plug. Its too big.

I saw a special tool for this. It is a socket that is 1/2 the thickness of a regular tool to allow it to fit in the hole. Look on ebay under BMW E24 or BMW 635. I think I saw it there.

Did you look in your took kit? The M6s came with a spark plug tool, which is about the only thing that will fit.

Got to have a thin walled 17.5 mm socket -

IF there's no longer one in your tool Kit -

www.samstagsales.com sells them for about 40 or so - made by Hazet. I got one a few months ago - it works.

I'm always amazed that people buy BMW's and then someone pilfer's the tools out of them - My M6 tool kit is mostly complete - missing only the long shafted screwdriver. - and evidently the spark plug changer - since it's gone.

but all other tools are there.

I think the screw driver you are missing is available at Bavarian Autosport.

Actually its an 18mm but I cant get that size ratchet down in the sleeve to pull the plug. Its too big. Although it will work an 18MM is still a little loose. If you try an 11/16" socket, I think you will find a perfect fit.:)

The spark plug wrench for the tool kit is no longer available. The rest of the tool kit can be ordered as a set for about $100 from Mobile Tradition, however it doesn't fit as well in the box (the screwdriver handles are too chunky and have to be forced into the slot).

The Hazet one on the site above is listed for the M3 and M5, which is the right one for you.

usually the tools that are missing are the channel type locks or the plyers since anyone will ask to borrow a pair of plyers and we being the helpful type loan them and then forget to ask for it back. Want to know what the trick is for keeping a full set? Buy your car from a women owner they never use the tools. My 88 with 310000 on the clock even had the blue rag still neatly folded in the tool box. I don't think she even knew the tools were there. Sorry for the hijack.

+1 I still have the blue rag too! Funny.

The only part I was missing was the channel locks. When our fellow sixer smiller cam through town last year (or earlier this year), he was kind enough to give me his to make mine compelte. Now theres a hell of a guy!! Thanks Steve!
